As a Cormac fan I was pleased to read a book from his (and Amelia's) POV. I did miss Kitty's POV, but this series needed a jolt. The last couple of books were disappointing reads and the weakest 2 books of the series (IMO). This installment was so much better it gives me hope for the last book, Kitty Saves the World.
I thought the mystery was cool. Cormac had to face his past, both people he knew and his deceased father. A favorite quote: (Amelia) "You had carnal relations with her!"

I do love Cormac! I had a problem with Ben at first but grew to love him as well. I need to read this!
Thanks Steph!Rachel, I missed Kitty too much and only gave it 3 stars, though I did enjoy the story.
Looking forward to the last book on August 4.
Looking forward to shelf! Tomorrow is a crazy day for me. About 11 hours of surgery plus room turnover may add up to a 16 hour day. I'll check in as soon as I can.
Sandra wrote: "Sounds pretty horrendous Cheryl. Good luck with it."It is like that all summer with kids out of school. Everyone wants surgery before the new school year.

I'm tentatively planning on reading
for the Happy Birthday shelf should it be called. Unless that shelf is called this week or next then I'll need to pick something else.
Shelf call:A Bloody Mess:
Read a book that features: 'blood' in title, series name, on the cover or a book featuring vampires
@Moondance.......my daughter just had surgery last week (on Mon). We totally tried to plan around the school year. Her three day hospital stay turned in to a six drama from hell. (which is why I haven't finished my strong heroine book yet)

We do a lot of cleft lip and palate. Today both of them had syndromes. One was DiGeorge and the other was Treacher Collins. The day went better than I thought so it was only about 14 hours.
Hope she's doing better Alisa! Don't worry too much about the game, its very early days yet, and family comes first!Cheryl, you need to catch up, I'm eagerly awaiting the next one, due out soonish :)
Her surgery was orthopediatic and pretty major (both hips and a shin/ankle) but our biggest problem horrible pain management. It was a nightmare and I work in the medical field. I can't imagine what it would have been like for average parents who didn't know medicines etc. Very bad experience for us all.And reading wise...hey I'm only behind 2 bingo books, 4 scavenger hunt books for another group and about 7 ARC's. Easy peasy.....LOL

About 35% done with
and I like it, but I'm struggling a little bit. Cause my wonderful hubby brought home his cold from work last Tuesday, and it hit me on Friday. I missed going to a Christmas in July Breakfast this morning which my bff puts on every yr, cause I just felt like crap and I couldn't talk. He's still got it too, but he's starting to get over it, so hopefully I will too. :(
How's everyone else doing with their books or RL?
I hope you feel better Sandra! I was going to say summer colds are the worst but realize it is not summer for you. Drink plenty of fluids and stay in bed with a good book.

I loved Raylene's snarky, sarcastic type of humor. The secondary characters are fun too; Domino and his sister Pepper, Sister Rose/Adrian, Ian, Cal, Horace. They all play off of each other well (leading to some funny commentary).
The story is mostly resolved, Raylene just needs to find a certain individual now (and maybe a certain someone's sister too). Hopefully, that happens in the next (and the last) book.
Nearly finished my A Bloody Mess book, yay!Rachel, just noticed you've got our Bloody Mess books switched :)
A Bloody Mess Shelf
Date: 28/7/15
Rating: ★★★1/2
Gigi, Iris's younger human sister is living with her and Cal for the summer, and takes an IT programming job for the local Vampire Council office.
Iris isn't happy and wants Gigi to stay far away from all vampires except for her & Cal and their small band of vamp friends. Cal organizes for Nik to scare away guys annoying Gigi when she was at College, and he falls for her himself.
But something weird is going on, he is either kissing her or attacking her when they 'accidentally' meet up, usually in car parks. And it all comes down to a curse. Who has cursed Nik and why is he only attacking Gigi?
This was a fun book but not as much fun as previous books in the series. I found the mysteries good, though it was pretty obvious who one of the villains were, the other was a surprise.
The H was a little cardboard and the little sister angle for Gigi was a lot OTT.
I'd still read more in this series, absolutely.

Ha ha! Switched.
I'll get my review posted in the morning. I finished Sunday but haven't gotten to the computer. My phone and tablet just don't cut it for writing reviews. Looking forward to a new shelf.

Review:
Dear Reader.
It's been a little over three months since I met Rule.
Lily and Rule have escaped from Hell(Dis) and are working with the Secret Service to uncover politicians that are using demon magic. During a night out at the Kennedy Center, a wave of magic causes a musician to shift into a werewolf. In the aftermath, Lily and Rule are escorting him home when another wave shows a demon slashing at people on the street. Rule attempts to subdue the demon and the musician in killed. Meanwhile, Cullen is in Mexico chasing dragons and Cynna is in church confessing her sins.
It had been so long since I read the previous book that I had to refer back to it often. I understand that there were a couple of short stories/novellas that came before this book as well. I enjoy the dark world that the author creates. I felt that I became better acquainted with Lily and Rule. Oh, and Cullen and Cynna. It is wonderful to see the dance between them! Despite Cynna's protests, she is really being set up to be the next Rhej of the Nokolai. (The end of the book pretty much cements that deal!). Grandmother is always a welcome character. She is like an onion that you keep peeling only to discover more depth.
I hope to read the next book fairly soon (and not wait 6 years-geezz!) to catch up with all things Lupi.
A good solid read!

They take me a long time to read. They're so heavy on world building I have to be in the right frame of mind to read them. I'm like 4 behind. I do love Rule though. He's book boyfriend material. :)
Strong Heroine4 stars
Date read: 07/27/15
Fun mix of Victorian, vampires and werewolves. Honoria is hiding in the dreaded Whitechapel district because her father was murdered. Blade is infected with vampire blood but is a rogue and running his own territory. I enjoyed this different world and I found myself again wondering why I don't read more books in this genre. I really like them. I enjoyed the tension between the two MC's and really everything about the plot. Looking forward to book two.
Shelf is Happy Birthday (read a book published in 2015)Darn, so much for reading Low Midnight for this shelf:-(
Will think on it.
Stamp request put in for strong heroine.

Alisa, I've had it sitting on my tbr since it came out, but never seem to get to it.
I didn't know Gena Showalter had a new series. (of course I'm not caught up on the other two of hers I do know about).
I didn't know either.I've finished my Happy Birthday book, but I think I'll do the review in the morning :)

This was a huge finale. So much going on. The gang is all present and accounted for except for Belle. She's mentioned, but has no "screen" time.
My main issue was with Rachel. She's less angsty in this one, but still believed she was not good enough for Trent. Oh please, just stop it. I wanted to smack her. (Can I? Please?!) I felt it took her to the end of the book to wake up. Ignore that flaw, and it's a good finale.
