Sometimes overly dominant men give me the creeps. I think that was the issue.

Sandra | 25914 comments Oh, that doesn't usually worry me if I feel there is a connection between the MCs.

I know its a book & not real life. If it was RL I'd be running a kajillion miles away as fast as my legs would carry me. LOL.

Alisa I find this quote about alpha males pretty funny:

“I mean, I kind of feel alphas are the romance equivalent of an impulse buy. It looks great in the shop but then you get home and it’s like where am I going to put this thing? It doesn’t go with my furnishings and it keeps trying to kiss me punishingly.”

Moondance (moondance120) | 2141 comments Shelf 16: ALPHA MALE

Tanner's Scheme by Lora Leigh
Tanner's Scheme (Breeds, #9) by Lora Leigh

Read: 10.29.15
Rating: 4 stars
Review:

General Cyrus Tallant sat in his office with only his desk lamp for light, his gaze trained tearfully on the picture he held in his hand.

Scheme Tallant is Cyrus' daughter and works along him with the Genetic Council. Tanner Reynolds is Breed, a Bengal tiger, that works under Jonas Wyatt. Tanner has been watching Scheme for ten years waiting for an opportunity to neutralize her not knowing that she has been working for Jonas.

Scheme understands the true evil that resides in her father. She has seen that in the murder of her mother and the abortion of her own baby. She most definitely does not share his views on the Breeds which the Council created and now want to destroy. Tanner kidnaps Scheme to save her from her father.

I have somehow read this series out of order. Something that I try not to do. However, this book caught and kept my interest. I appreciated that the "mating heat" did not hit Tanner and Scheme as soon as they met. I'm glad that they had feelings for each other first. Tanner's twin, Cabal, was instrumental in pushing them together. Scheme did annoy me at times when she did really stupid things although she knew that Tanner was trying to help her. Trust was a huge issue between both of them.

Since Tanner and Cabal shared just about everything, I was a little concerned that there was going to be an uncomfortable threesome between the characters. I was pleased with the resolution of that situation. Now I need to see what lies in store for Cabal.

This is the best I've read in this series. Now I need to go backwards and catch up with some of the back story. I look forward to reading the next one as well.

Sandra | 25914 comments Glad you enjoyed it Cheryl.

I felt it was a better book than a lot of the Breed stories, simply cause it was less 'heat' focussed and more character driven. Though it is quite a while since I read it, so I might have gotten that wrong. LOL.

Moondance (moondance120) | 2141 comments I spent most of the day reading. I have not been feeling well for almost two weeks. I took today off to go to the mountains but it was pouring rain when I got up. Rather than catching up on house work I decided to put my feet up and read. I read two books today! Such a nice feeling. Tomorrow is suppose to be pretty so I'm heading for the hills. Hopefully the leaves will still be pretty. If not, I'm going to the Southeast Animal Fiber Fair. Because in addition to books, I don't have enough yarn!

Sandra, I did enjoy Tanner. I pretty much didn't put it down until I finished.

My spare bedroom is stuffed with fiber and such. I have a floor loom set up, several smaller looms and a 7 foot triangle loom. The walls are lined with cubbies that are filled with yarn, rovings and projects. It is an addiction!

My boss went to Japan recently and came back with a wicked virus that he has shared with all of us. I gave it to my mom and sister. We have all been coughing like fiends for almost two weeks. I lost my voice the first part of the week. Patients don't particularly want to be taken care of by someone that sounds like they should be a patient. I've worn a mask all week in the office and tried to stay in my office doing nonclinical things. Yesterday I said the heck with it and took the rest of the week off. I don't go back until Tuesday. Yay!

Eternal Flame (Night Watch, #3) by Cynthia Eden

Good story line, lots going on. I enjoyed Jana and Zane both individually and together. I liked the idea of having a supernatural that can remove powers and "give" them to someone else. That was different. I liked that Jana embraced her fire and realized it was an integral part of her. It was nice Dee and Erin made appearances.
I think the most disappointing thing is I was hoping Pak and Tony would have their own stories too. The way this ended I felt the setup was there. I looked at the next (and last) book, but nope, neither are listed as a character (in fact, I'm not sure how the Night Watch universe plays into it from reading the blurb).

Alisa Shelf 15 Coupledom

A Prayer for the Dead (Deadly Mystery, #7) by Victor J. Banis
3 stars

date finished 11/01/15

This was just ok. I didn't really care for the writing style. It was very unique and he's very famous but it was kind of wonky (professional review vocab there). Anyways.....Stan and Tom are an established couple....with an odd relationship, who end up at a monastery investigating some murders. The mystery part was pretty good. I finished this though not sure if the couple is going to make it. Weird cuz this is the 7th book in the series. I haven't read the rest of it but I'd be mad if I was committed to them and they broke up after all this. I'll never know though cuz I don't see myself reading any more of the series.

Sandra | 25914 comments Fated (Dark Protectors, #1) by Rebecca Zanetti
Alpha Male Shelf
Date: 5/11/15
Rating: ★★★

Cara, a plant scientist, is gifted and so is her 4yr old daughter Janie & sister, Emma the geneticist. That makes them wanted by both the Vampires and the baddies, the Kurjans; as mates or baby factories, depending on which side you're on.

It was a good story, well paced, a little predictable but Talen the Vamp was just too over the top dominant. He became a sterotype rather than a well rounded character, which was a shame. Cara was also a little TSTL at times, but I'm sure that was contrived so Talen could show his dominance.

I will read further into the series as the story itself was well told.

Game for Anything (Bad Boys of Football, #1) by Bella Andre
Nov 7th 2.5*

2.5*
Well, there were moments I liked and others that got on my nerves. I'm waffling between a 2-3 star for this one. Since I can't do 1/2 stars, it's 2.5 stars, rounded up.
I really liked that Ty not only loved and was good at his job, but at other things as well. The same goes for Julie. I did think Julie quickly jumped to her own conclusions and didn't give the other party a chance to explain.
They got together super fast. I would have liked more exploration of their childhoods (and how it shaped the adults they are), I thought that part was settled very quickly. Instead, what was brought up repeatedly (in cause my brain wasn't working), was Julie's wealth and privilege and Ty's being from a trailer park.
What got super annoying was reading how hot Ty is and how women just can't help themselves when around him- ".."quivering masses of hormones." His supreme hotness was brought up, at least in the first half, EVERY FREAKING CHAPTER!" If I was playing a drinking game, I'd be drunk and passed out easily by chapter 10.

Alisa I just recently read a horrible book when the MC's cried constantly. I counted 28x. I said in my review I should've made it a drinking game cuz if I would've drank every time they cried I would have been sloshed and it wouldn't have been such a painful read.

Moondance (moondance120) | 2141 comments I'm really enjoying my book! I loved the Shifters series and hated when it ended. I did learn to not read it on a plane. I read the 4th book on an international flight that I took often enough to know the flight attendants.(Someone else was paying the bills so I flew first class) I started crying during a part of the storyline that soon became sobs. The attendants were so sweet! They brought me tea and tried to comfort me. It was difficult to explain that it was just the book. Thankfully my boss was sound asleep and didn't get involved.

One trip Dr. M read Three Weeks With My Brother by Nicholas Sparks on the way over. He asked me if I wanted to read it on the way back. Again with the tears. I punched him in the arm and asked why he didn't tell me it was sad. He said I thought all of this guys books were sad. Point taken...
