Know Your Author - Task nominations
1. Read a book by an author who has published both realist/contemporary fiction and non-realist/speculative fiction (science fiction, fantasy, magical realism, etc.)

Say for example you like The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. You could then read
Gregor the Overlander from The Underland Series. Which I honestly had never heard of until about half an hour ago.

It can be an author who only ever wrote one book and never wrote again. Or it can be an author who has only publish one book at the time that you are doing this challenge.

This is not the same as task 2. Different authors must have used the same pseudonym over time. One example is Carolyn Keene where a number of authors have ghost written the Nancy Drew books over time.

I know! Authors are really secretive about their birthdays! I ended up using the same link that I did for the "author born in the same year as me" and slowly worked my way backwards. There are not a lot of great options but I found one or two.

I had assumed so as many authors have chosen to publish under the name... but I guess it is up to Carolien.

Nope, you cannot use Anonymous. It must be an actual name, but used by more than one author over time.J.J. Marric is an example.
There are some thriller writers (some very well known)who started writing on their own and eventually had a book farm going with a bunch of other writers for their books.

However, JJ Marric is in itself just a pseudonym, not the name of an author. By that logic, you can use any pseudonym that has been used by two or more people, including books that would count for task 2, like The Mall by SL Grey (the pseudonym of Sarah Lotz and Louis Greenberg). Either that or JJ Marric can't be used for the task because it's not an author's name.

Oh bugger, I see you specified "over time". Which is vague enough to loophole, but I know what you mean - different authors used it at different times. However, the issue with JJ Marric and using names that were always pseudonyms still stands.
You know, I am loving the little technicalities that are being derived from a simple (but crazy fun) book challenge. Loopholes are my thaaang. :)

The "over time" is on purpose. And it is exactly what I meant. JJ Marric started out as a pseudonym for somebody and continued to be used as a pseudonym by another person at a later stage. Same as Carolyn Keene. Started out as a pseudonym for an author and became the pseudonym used by other authors over time.
The other version is where somebody started out as an actual author and the name is eventually used by other people to maintain the "brand name" of the author. Robert Ludlum's estate has gone that route.
Ok. What I wanted to confirm was that you can use a name that was always just a pseudonym, as the task states "Read a book by an author whose name has been used by a pseudonym". As it stands it only refers to an actual author whose name became a brand, like Robert Ludlum as you mention. But it's more like "Read a book where the 'author' is a name that has been used by at least two different writers, at different times." Or perhaps "Read a book written under a house pseudonym" (since we know the term now).By the way, are we allowed to use any book written under the house pseudonym, or only the books by the first person to use it?

Objective
Complete 25 tasks based on authors.
We will nominate 25 tasks and each task must relate to an author e.g. read a book written by an author whose birthday falls in the same month as your own, read a book by an author who has written both fiction and non-fiction etc.
Tasks
1. Read a book by an author who has published both realist/contemporary fiction and non-realist/speculative fiction (science fiction, fantasy, magical realism, etc.)
2. Read a book that was written by 2 authors. Whether they are a duo under 1 name, or each by their own name.
3. Read a book by an author who has published both a children's book/books and an adult book/books.
4. Read a book by an author that writes both historical and contemporary fiction.
5. Read a book by an author who died the year you were born
6. Read a book by an author who was born in the same country as you
7. Read a book by an author who was born in the same year as you.
8, Read a book by an author whose name starts with the same letter as yours (name or surname)
9. Read the first book of a new (to you) series. By an author that you have read and enjoyed in the past.
10. Read a book by an author who has a career in addition to writing. The book can be fiction or non-fiction.
11. Read a book by an author who you have read a book by more or equal to 4 times before.
12. Look on the bookshelves of other members participating in this challenge and find an author who is new to you. Read a book by that author and include the name of the member whose bookshelf you raided!
13. Read a book by an author who appears in the book as a subject/character. It may be an autobiography, a biography, or fiction.
14. Read an authors debut novel/book that is their only novel/book.
It can be an author who only ever wrote one book and never wrote again. Or it can be an author who has only publish one book at the time that you are doing this challenge.
15. Read a book by an author who has had movies made from one of their books. The book you read does not have to be one that was made into a movie.
16. Read a book by an author who is younger than you (it can be by 1 day).
17. Read a book by an author that has more then one pseudonym. i.e Nora Roberts - J.D Robb - Jill March
18. Read a book where the 'author' is a name that has been used by at least two different writers, at different times. In other words, read a book written under a house pseudonym.
One example is Carolyn Keene where a number of authors have ghost written the Nancy Drew books over time.
19. Read a book by an author that is older than 50.
20. Read a book by an author who has the same name (first or surname) as you or a close family member (sibling, parent, spouse or child).
21. Read a book by an author born in an exotic/unusual country.
So NOT born in America, Canada, The United Kingdom, Australia or Southern Africa and Holland/The Netherlands (to cover Barbara)
22. Read a book by an author who uses their initials and not full name e.g PD James, JD Robb
23. Read a novel by an author who studied literature at university or college.
24. Read a book by an author who has a degree in something not related to writing/literature.
25. Read a book by an author who shares your birthday, it doesn't matter the year just the day
