It wasn't bad, but I feel it was nowhere near as good as people make it out to be."I just started it, but I picked that up by the reviews on GoodReads. It seems it's a love-it or hate-it kind of book.
Don't understand the negativity. This was an incredibly well-crafted thriller. I particularly like the way it was set in a plausible future with real-world rules, rather than a mythical one where the author can suddenly produce a deux ex machina to save the hero or heroine.
I originally wrote this off because I confused the author with someone else; I didn't realize he'd written award-winning children's lit before this. I'm about halfway through this and really liking it. A few times I didn't pick it up because I knew I'd have to put it down too soon! It's darker than a lot of YA I've read, and I think it's strong sci-fi; most YA sci-fi I've felt disappointed in, but I am really liking this so far.
I'm currently 46% into the book (reading it on my kindle) and I have to say that I'm quite impressed. It seems like the reviews tend to be divided into two groups: people who really disliked the book, and people who adored it. Unless a very disappointing ending, I think I'll find myself among the latter. A very though beginning but it is getting easier and more addicting as I go along.
I have 2 discs left in the audio book, and I am definitely in the "disappointed" category. I do not like any of the chapters written from Cassie's point-of-view, and am having trouble wanting to finish the book.

It seemed very real.
I thought this book was good but a little overrated. i still thought it was really good but not as super amazing everyone made it out to be
I'm halfway through Chapter 6. I haven't formed much of an opinion yet but am trying to remain cautiously optimistic. Seems like the reviews are either calling it Book of the Year or the worst thing they've read. Either way I'm looking forward to a new adventure.
My initial thought with the book was that it was really depressing. A lot of times with dystopian novels there is kind of a sense that eventually things will work out ok in the end. With this story, I never had the feeling things were going to be ok. So while Cassie was running and trying to survive, I just kept thinking...but if you survive...so what? It just seemed like such a bleak future. I also thought the book started a little slow. I was glad it picked up.

Sort of like in zombie movies. One person (or even a small group) can't really stop an apocalypse, so even if they survive to the end, it's not a big victory.
