Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) description

Scattergories is one of my favorite games to play, and reading one of my favorite pastimes, so I’ve combined the two.

The general rules of Scattergories are you are given a list of categories and a time limit. Then the letter dice is rolled and you have to come up with something that matches your letter and the category.

This “Challenge” works in conjunction with the other challenges you may participate in this month. You may use a book to fulfill multiple items (you don't have to read 12 books this month...don't worry!) While you are fulfilling the requirements of your other challenges, be on the lookout for the following items (they may be on the cover or mentioned in the book):

The Challenge: I will post a list of 12 categories, 6 general relating to any book, and 6 specific to that month. On the last day of the month before, I will post the letter of the month. You can start reading on the 1st. The goal is to get as many points as possible by the end of the month.

Duration: October 1 to October 31
Rules:
1.Any genre of books will work
2.Ebooks and audio count
3.You can read in any order
4.Rereads are ok but if you really reread the book

Points: You get one point for each category you can tie to a book, where the first letter begins with the letter of the month. You get double points for each time the letter of the month is used to begin a word (ex. for author if the letter was C, Cassandra Claire would be 2 points). We will not be deducting points for duplicate answers like the original game version does.

…..Note….. if you have already earned 1 point for an item and come across another item worth more points you can replace it. Please only list the one book that you are currently using for points.

Special categories are open for interpretation. As long as it is mentioned in the book and you can justify how it fits, it will work.

When you find one of the items list the Book Title and Author (or link the cover), date it, and specify where the item is found within the book. (i.e. page number, e-reader location, audio chapter)

Just like the regular game we will not use the letters Q, U, V, X, Y and Z. Or K.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hey, I'm new at this. Can someone take a look at entry #12 and tell me if I'm on the right track? And how to count the points? Is it ok to use he/her/him, etc.? And does the word you are looking for (such as pink) count as a point, or only those words that start with H? Thanks!

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Only the words that start with H count as a point. And I'm sure you can count he/him/her if it relates to the item you are searching for.
Ex: He wore pink.

4. Secondary Chara..."

So, if I counted right, I think I'm done with the month with 24 points...

Is there going to be one for November? I really enjoyed this one.

It's kind of become a self policing, challenge.

You SHOULD only count the words that relate to the theme. But some people count every word in the sentence. It isn't a clear cut always one way. Every thing in the sentence could relate to the theme, or only part of the sentence could.

I'll take some time now to look through this months.

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) If I were claiming items this is how I would have claimed points.

If you are playing the real game you have a noun and adjectives. That is how I look at it when I judge. But in this version you could use other parts of speach.

One other thing about the real game is you can argue your point with the other players, so feel free to question my judgement.

Pat- 10 (7,9,& 12 arn't really all realated to the theme)

Turtlefrog- 8 (cover is 2 seperate items Hairy hands would be 2 points, and a lot of your sentences run on with different subjects, and fall was wrong form)

Missyb-7 ( I missed some of your H words in there)

Jade aka MrsTosh- 11 (I didn't get the drinking and hearing bit, and fall was wrong form)

Barbara ★ - 16 (wrong fall)

Penni- 11 (You claimed the same words a few times in each sentence, and I'm not sure about the pink)

Suzanne- 10

Leslie- 12

I kinda get why you might want a change at #7 but I don't get why #9 & #12 would be an issue, could you please explain (msg #10)
