October 2013 - Rinse and Repeat

As long as it is a living organism and isn't a plant, it falls under the definition of animal, according to Merriam-Webster). There are more animals on earth than mammals. LOL!

I'm not sure yet whether I'll participate in this one. I never reread books, and I have so many books that I still want to read that I prefer new ones over ones that I read before. On the other hand, I do have some books on my real-life bookshelves that I read many many years ago and do not remember at all, so they are basically new books ;) And I just love the challenges here!
edit 5 minutes later: Oh! I could read The Color Purple!! I actually have that one on my TBR even though I have read it before. Yay! Count me in for this challenge then :D
How can I find out if a book was banned at some point? I only heard about banned books two days ago. Is there a specific list or something you use in this group, or can I just google it?

Hehehe... I like how you've talked yourself into this challenge by saying that the books on your bookshelf are basically new because you've forgotten them completely.
A proper name could be a first name or last name of a person as in Elmer Gantry or Still Alice. It could be the proper name of a place - A Town Like Alice or Mexico. Where it may get tricky is a proper name of a mythical person or place as in Nyx which is what I am currently reading. I didn't know when I started reading it what the significance of the title was. It turned out to be the name of the main character. If it's not obvious, then you will need to explain to me why it's a proper name.

Thanks Janice. Lol, I know that there are more animals on Earth than mammals but I just wanted to make sure I had understood everything correctly.

And how about the banned books? (I edited my message later with that question, but probably while you were already answering my first one!)

Wuthering Heights is one of my favourite books! I was toying with the idea of reading it again for this challenge but I have re-read it so many times that I decided to go with something else. At the moment I am torn between Dark Matter and The Winter Ghosts.

Peggy, if you go into the Book Discussions board you will see a thread started by Kat called Banned Books. There are links in the first post that will tell you about banned books and list titles for you :)

A few months back we did a group read of banned books - check out the thread - there are books there that people nominated plus a few links to lists of banned books.

There are a number of ways that you can determine if a book has been banned or not. GR's has a couple of listopia's - http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/13...
Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_...

You could be surprised and find that you liked it better the second time around. I recently re-read Dark Places. The first time around, I gave it 4 stars. The second - 5 stars!
Ohh, feindish. I've got a few books I last read at school - was put off by the teacher and have never tried again. Maybe now's the time to dip the toe back in the water...

I just made the statement elsewhere that I need to re-read The Shadow of the Wind and The Angel's Game. Both are referenced in The Prisoner of Heaven, which I just finished.
Hmm. I actually have a shelf of 20 books, "Bring Em Back Alive", that I better consult before I make up my mind.☺

LOL! Madame Tuttie Fruity hasn't put her hat away yet. :)

Oh, the cover on this book is SO familiar! I cannot remember if I ever read it or not though. The story line does not seem familiar, but the cover calls to me.

Check out the bookmarks, settings, etc., of The Far Pavilions in Book Drum to enhance your read.

Wow, Almeta, what a cool link. I found that they had one for The Graveyard Book. I am going to go post the link for it over at the discussion page.

Awesome site! Thanks for the link Almeta. I had never heard of that site.

Cherie, I remember it as one I was totally engrossed in. Hoping it ends up that way rereading it. :)

Yes, I started re-reading Tom Sawyer some time ago and have run into this. I stopped reading and never got back to it. My grandson had been complaining about having to read the story about white washing the fence. He had to do a report and we were talking about why he didn't like reading it. He said it was "too hard to read". Not hard - just slow. :)

Only real elephants that make an appearance count. They must be flesh and bone. :)

I have changed my mind and decided to read Kim by Rudyard Kipling.

which I first read back when I was in High School. I remember I loved it - but it is a small doorstop in size! Oh, well!

Reading it as an adult instead of a high schooler was a brand new reading experience for me. I loved it even more....
