Squeak | 8 comments This book has multiple authors and when the two different edition were created, the authors were listed in a different order. When I clicked on the combine editions button, they don't both show up on the list, so I wasn't able to combine them.

As there is the cover there, it's easy to see who are the authors and which order they should be in. I therefore corrected the order of the second book and also added the missing authors from the first.

In other circumstances, if I'm unsure which order the authors should be in but I know that they're separate editions of the same book, then I temporarily rearrange the authors in order to combine them then set them back to how they were (it doesn't take too much effort to move one author up then back down again once they're combined).

It also appears that they're a part of a series, so I have also created the series.

Susie (dragonsusie) | 2469 comments There's actually a note in the librarian's manual about it:
"When a book has multiple authors they should be listed according to the order they show on the cover, if possible. The order also needs to be the same for any/all editions of the same book. This will allow for editions to be combined. If two editions of the same multi-author book do not have the same author listed first, the books can not be combined. So it is important to list multiple authors correctly".

You could apply to become a Goodread Librarian and then you would have the ability to combine books and editions on goodreads.

T.D. Whittle (twhittle) | 10 comments I have one request and one I-am-confused query?

Firstly, my request is that someone combine these two editions of Elizabeth Jolley's Five Acre Virgin and Other Stories hardcover and paperback editions: ISBNs 0909144052 and 1921361379, respectively. Also, there should not be a comma in the hardcover edition, and whoever added it did not include a summary. I just added the paperback myself, which includes a cover image and a summary and a correct title without a comma.

Secondly, I applied to be a GR Librarian, and a few days later, I see that I am listed on my profile page as #33 top librarians (I suppose for Australia) but this is kind of silly, since I've not done anything; so, is this in reference to something else, or have I been added as a librarian? If I have, I do not seem to have any privileges as one, since I was unable to combine these two editions once I'd created the new one, and I was unable to make some corrections to quotes by Shirley Hazzard (which I'd added myself but made a small error of formatting in one).

Can an experienced librarian advise me, and also make those changes on the Jolley book?

Adding books to the database and the edits you can do as a Goodreads author are also counted for the top librarian lists, so someone can be in those list without being a librarian.

It varies quite a bit. Someone gets accepted in a day, to someone else, it might take over two weeks... I waited for nine days before the 'librarian status' and e-mail reached me ;)

Hi Joanne,

I'm guessing that this is the book you're talking about?

The problem here seems to be that it's on a different profile - your GR author profile is here, whereas the other book is on this profile - you can only amend (to a limited ability) books on your GR author profile.

As I say that, I notice that I can't actually find another edition of Murder Most Foul. If the cover has been updated the general practice is to add an alternative-cover edition. If you can provide us with a new cover it's possible to do that, then it can be combined with the other book. Although we won't be able to change the default edition as that can only be done from a GR author profile.
