Morgan P | 172 comments This isn't really a full blown discussion of the novel, because I HAVE NOT finished it yet. (Please no spoilers).

But as I was reading, I noticed some interesting things. First: On page 155, or where it is supposed to be, it says SOS for the page number. Not 155.
Second: On page 217, "The Da Vinci Code" is supposed to be typed at the top. Instead it reads: "The De Ysosy Code".

I have the paperback version of the book. I checked my grandma's hardcover version, but I didn't see them. They might still be there however, because I only checked pages 155 and 217, where they occured in my book.

Did anyone else notice this?

Morgan, in my issue, which is a hardcover, there is a new chapter on page 155, so it has no page number at all... and page 217 has a normal heading.

Perhaps your copies printing company made a goof up....???

Morgan P | 172 comments In mine, I also have a new chapter on page 155, but it says SOS. As for both of the mistakes, who knows?

Apokripos (apokalypse) Maybe it is a code?
You know that kind of book's always have conspiracy brewing...
Maybe Dan Brwon's just waiting for someone to crack the code i his book?

Morgan P | 172 comments Update: I was reading and I noticed that three asterisks were in place of the page number on page 322.

I found this intresting, so I looked up more. Here is a list of them found in the paperback version:

Book Title shows on these pages as:
page 95 The De Lancs Code
page 141 The La Sufrete Code
page 217 The De Ysosy Code

Author shows up on these pages as:
page 60 Ankh Fendile
page 138 Das Brilli
page 192 Reon Tigaldo
page 262 Mer Reve

Huh... very interesting, isnt it? I wonder what it all means....

message 7: by Apokripos (new)

Apokripos (apokalypse) Guys it's a code can't you see...
Why don't you use the Ceasar something code mentioned in the book... I forgot what it's called... I read the book ages ago...

message 8: by Morgan P (new)

Morgan P | 172 comments I looked it up some more, and it talked about how some of the words were anagrams for knife handles and candles, and random stuff.

But apparently, Dan Brown did this in one of his prior novels, and the codes in that book (I don't know which one) talked about how the Da Vinci Code was going to be published. Maybe the code in this one is telling about a future novel as well...

Morgan P | 172 comments I'm reading it and looking forward to watching the movie.

Robin (robinsullivan) | 997 comments Interesting.....I read the book years ago and I don't remember anything like that in my version (don't know if I still have it or not - its a cute idea.

message 12: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 266 comments I read this years ago too and have just looked up in my hard cover copy - there are non of those mysteries. Maybe they put them in the newer copies?

I do remember being very disappointed reading near the end something like - the stars were beginning to appear in the night sky. But in the west something was glowing brighter than all the rest - it was Venus.

Venus???? in the western sky????........

message 13: by Bedtime Booknerd (new)

Bedtime Booknerd (shawtygurl15) I don't have these codes on my hard cover version...no fair !!! lol, anyway, I saw the movie and I thought that it didn't do the book justice...didn't really get the same excitement as when I was reading the book...

message 14: by Liz (new)

Liz I totally agree with you on that Ingrid, although I can't exactly pinpoint what about the movie I didn't like.

message 15: by Madison (new)

Madison Paine (madisonpaine) Wow. You have me looking at this book for the first time in a while. I have an April 2003 print and did not have those notations. I really enjoyed this book. It kept me thinking constantly. I am not a fan of the movies at all. They fall short. Some literature should be left alone. This is a puzzle book and does not translate that well in cinema.

message 16: by Apokripos (new)

Apokripos (apokalypse) The problem with the movie I think is that it crammed all those tedious information in the book... and the movie didn't do justice to that...
I think those codes may only be found on the first hardcover edition of the book...

message 17: by Morgan P (new)

Morgan P | 172 comments I just recently watched the movie, and I wasn't very impressed.

message 18: by A.M. (new)

A.M. Kuska I read some of the book, couldn't get over the poor writing style or the historical errors (and I'm not talking Biblical. Errors that anyone who has taken a World History class would notice.)

The plotline really was thought provoking, but I just couldn't get over the childish writing style.

message 19: by Kandice (new)

Kandice As I was reading, there were certainly very big "liberties" taken with history, but I read the entire thing as fiction, so had no problem with that.

Brown's style may not be highbrow literature, but his books are fast paced, keep me interested, and reading long past when I should have been asleep.

Will his books be classics? No, of course not, but like Patterson and Picoult, they have their audience and their place.

message 20: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments I agree with you Kandice. I also read this book completely as fiction so didn't have a problem with the not truths. He has fast, interesting stories which aren't like high, timeless literature but still very very enjoyable.
