A Firsly, let me tell you that the character development of this book is very poor. The book is narrated by June and Day and both of them sound the same and have got indistinguishable voices and not to mention the ridiculous stunts they perform. Really, which 15 year-old can scale 5 stories in less than 8 seconds, break into a bank heavily guarded by soldiers and bordered by lasers, vandalise the Defence Department and destroy engines of war-front airships??? Tell me, isn't it ridiculous? The characters were so one-dimensional that I hardly cared about them throughout the book. I know that this is the work of fiction but it MUST make sense within its given boundaries.

Also, the whole book was so predictable. Nothing came to be a shocker to me in the end and I didn't enjoy this book at all.

Raevyn "Lucia" [I'm in it for the books] I haven't read it, and I don't think I'll like it when I do. The dystopia's description isn't even that original...

Sara There's nothing wrong with it, I personally liked it a lot. It just depends on your tastes.

Cassidy Its a great book. I guess you just have to enjoy the genre and you have to get into it. It was exciting and fast paced. I'm excited for the third one :)

Amanda The character development improves in Prodigy, the second book in the Legend trilogy. Also you have to think about the circumstances. June can do all these things because she trained her entirely life as a republic soldier. Day can do all this things because he lived his entirely life poor and having to defend for himself in a dog eat dog world. But it is preference. I thought the second one was a great improvement to the first one. As much as I loved Legend I do believe that Marie should have taken more time with the characters and should have made the book longer. Seemed a bit rushed

Don't apologise, conflict in opinions exists :)
This book was certainly not my cup of tea.

Colette Crowder I hated this book too! Very poor character development, and Legend sounded as if written by a twelve year old girl. I couldn't care less what happened to June or Day, and felt very disconnected from the entire plot. Though I do think it might make a better movie, You definitely won't find me in the book store looking for the sequel.

Colette Crowder I don't know if this is strange, but I was excited when the kick boxer girl (Her name was Kassady I think ) was introduced. Even though she was a total you-know-what, I could see possible character development over the course of the story with her. I was disappointed when we figured out she was a rebel leader and she was quickly dismissed as a character. I liked her spunk! A tough dystopian kick-boxer girl? Awesome!

Brian Basham I also was not a fan of this book. June and Day are very similar, but I didn't feel they were the same character. They were both very vanilla. I found every other character to be more interesting. The story was mostly predictable. The main villain seemed to not have any reason for being evil other than to be evil. I am not a fan of "evil" for no reason characters, and it kills the story for me.

I agree, the characters were cardboard cut-outs. I really don't get the hype. The plot and world-building wasn't anything great or innovative either. I'm a fan of dystopian fiction and I've enjoyed many dystopian books but this one was just not my cup of tea. I don't even see why people compare this to THG and Divergent, this book isn't even close to being as good as them. I could have given this book 3 stars if it were a page-turner but it turned out to be a tedious read.

Oh my god, amen sister!

I hated this book too. For me to like a book I have to love the characters and the characters in this book... bored me. I didn't even finish it I thought it was that crap. I don't see anything good about it, really. I read the plot to this thinking it was going to be fantastic and then I started reading and then I stopped because there was no good reason for me to pick it up again. Hands down one of the worst books I've ever half-read. Sorry to the guys who love this.

Honestly, I'm going to have to disagree with what you said about Day being 15 and being able to do all that stuff... I think the idea of a 15 year old doing that is cool. Unrealistic, but cool. However, his character was just so completely dull and boring that idea was ruined. For me, it all comes down to the two main characters. Boring as hell. They ruined the story.

I love this genre and I hated this book...

kirstin ✿ @Colette: Her name's Kaede ^^ I don't know if you're planning to read the second book, but you'll find it interesting. Or at least I hope so.

Marie Lu made up for her lack of world-building in Legend in the sequel. Give it a try, I guess ;)

Nisi I loved this book to be honest it just depends on your taste.

Ethan I do agree with when you say that the characters are indistinguishable, when I read I kept having to look back at who was narrating, but I don't think the book was predictable. I loved it!

I don't mind reading about teenage characters with super-amazing-abilities but like we agreed, the characters in Legend were very dull and boring.

When I was 13, I used to be a huge fan of Artemis Fowl in which the 12-year-old protagonist Artemis was a mastermind criminal. What I loved about Artemis was that he was very very clever and cunning, he could execute plans by giving plausible explanation to them, his character had depth and he wasn't shown to be completely flawless. I still believe the author Eoin Colfer's a genius. He takes time to convince the readers of Artemis Fowl's cleverness.

On the other hand, Legend is bland. Day's breaking into high-security places isn't believable like how Artemis's well-executed plans are, it's instead cheesy. It wasn't portrayed realistically. He just somehow gets into some security-tight location, and then steals some stuff effortlessly here, the author gives us no clever thought and explanation. Lu just expects you to believe rather than convince you of all the super-human qualities of the protagonists.

I felt that Artemis's schemes were cool and plausible whereas Day and June's plans and stunts were both cheesy and unrealistic.
