Just finished. I get it now, Caitlin!! I get the ugh and the SPECTACULAR!

Am I the only one that wept when (view spoiler)[Chris and Ellie did the ashes? Especially Ellie! In fact, I'm still weepy. I loved Mina and can't believe she died.

And Jen, Alex is not leaving Tom, or Ellie, or Chris. I want to believe that Wolf took the chocolate! (hide spoiler)]

Yes, the gore was gruesome. (view spoiler)[I must have an aversion to eyeballs, because I couldn't get that scene out of my head for days. Jenny, similar to you ranting about bugs! Ha! (hide spoiler)] But after that scene, like David said, the gore lost its impact.

I think the entire series was incredibly well written! I've been living with Alex and Tom and Ellie for two years now and am sad that it's over.

Ilsa was on Facebook one day while she was writing Monsters and she said she had been crying over how much her characters suffered while she was writing one of the scenes.

Do you do that, David? I would imagine that you do! ;-) I can think of quite a few scenes from your books where I bawled!!

Finely, I can speak! Lol. Karen I'm glad you see what I mean now but I do understand where the others were coming from about the gore ruining it a bit. None of that really bothered me but growing up with an ER Nurse for a stepfather who discussed things in detail over dinner problem cured my of that haha.

But yes, I agree (view spoiler)[ I cried at the end with the ashes. It was sad and beautiful. I love that we know where the characters are going but it's up to us as readers to decide the journey.

I too believe Wolf took the chocolate and I actually bought an almond joy today just to clinch my theory! Lol.

I love not knowing about why it all began. I think it was a brilliant move by Bick because this story was focused on something specific and us knowing would not benefit our situation at all in the story. (hide spoiler)]

This easily slipped into one of my top 5 favorite series. And I had more to say but the sneeze I just had seemed to flush it out of my brain!

It was extremely intense!! I get it that it's just not everyone's cup of tea. Even I had to take a break from the intense and gore a couple of times. And I loved the story! I decided to wait to finish on the weekend when I would have time and the luxury to have the time to savor the end and take it all in slowly instead of trying to rush to read it late at night after a long work day.

And glad I wasn't the only weepy one. ;-)

Yes! I absolutely do that! If I'm not crying as I write a scene where one of my favorite characters dies, then I usually re-write it because it must not have been emotional enough. And if I'm not laughing at my own jokes then I certainly can't expect anyone else to!

Okay, so I was the turtle this go round...I FINALLY FINISHED IT!!! It was a solid 4 star read for me. I didn't love it as much as Caitlin and Karen, but I did really like it. The ending was FANTASTIC, I loved every part of the last 20% or so. It took us awhile to get there, but when we did...everything suddenly made sense. Ilsa is a brilliant writer! Amazing how she pulled all that together!
