Introducing Yourself

Hi Alba. There are so many styles and titles out there I am sure you'll find something you'll like. Any idea what you are looking for at the moment?

I'm Tina aka Teeny. I love manga and light novels. Currently manga-wise, I'm reading Saint Young Men, Fruits Basket, City, Barakamon, My Life as an Villainess/Avoiding Bad Ends...
I usually read fantasy or slice of life manga. But...I like anything really.

Hope to meet a lot of people here and have fun :D

Looking forward to some conversations!!!

Hi Tim, You got some classic titles there (it is a shame Shaman King was rushed in the end but I hear there was a web based manga to correct the ending.)
Heya there my name is Betrayed Sans

Just out of curiosity is your manga interests similar to your anime choices or do you like to read a variety of topics? Also is that New Sailor Moon or the classic butchered Americanized Sailor Moon you like? :)

Thanks and nice to meet you too. :)
My manga interests are similar to my anime interests, and I often read series I’ve watched. (eg. I’m currently reading the Fairy Tail 100 years quest after watching the Fairy Tail anime). The Sailor Moon series I watched is the 1992 animated television series, and I’ve also read the manga :)

Nice. Although a lot of titles were changed to make them more kid friendly (and market friendly) I like to see that there are others that were introduced in that period and got to see how anime changed thanks to early experiments in anime editing. :)
I still have to finish reading the Sailor Moon manga I have and now they re-released the series in glorious sparkly covers so I must resist the urge to collect them again in over-sized hardcover bliss. :)

Hi Ren! Although you probably got the language thing covered I did see a book on Amazon the other day about this subject so I thought I would share. :) Japanese the Manga Way: An Illustrated Guide to Grammar and Structure
Rumiko is one of my classic favorites and I can imagine although slow going her skill at humor brighten's up your lessons. :)

I see you have a tendency for cheerful and sad anime. I am a kaleidoscope of interests myself and I am not scared of those titles that grab onto your feels and dangle on them either. :)

Do you really live in Japan? How is life there right now?

Hi Doc

Me personally I have not watched all of the anime but I did read the whole manga and a lot of the side stuff :)

Hi Marissa, yes, I finished the Fairy Tail anime. I watched it on AnimeLab, which has lots of free shows :)
Heya I"m betrayed sans uh... I'm not any good at introductions I read Trinity Blood and 07-Ghosts I hope we can all be good friends

You did well enough for an intro. Welcome to the group. :)

Hi Nicholas. You primarily read graphic books like manga and comics, like light novels, or perhaps you like to read GNs while working through regular books? :)

Hi Rihab! Welcome! Hopefully, you and your mom can come to a compromise:) I work with a lot of kids your age -I'm old/29- whose parents are adamantly opposed to graphic novels in general and I always encourage them to compromise. I did that with my mom (who still rolls her eyes to this day) and she agreed that it's better that I have this "hobby" versus getting into trouble or a 'less educational' pursuit heehee. Good luck:)

I work with kids of all backgrounds and religions. The most popular excuse parents give is that there is nothing educational about comics or "picture books" (their words), but I tell them a story is a story regardless of format. Manga/anime in general always has at least one moral lesson in their stories, so it's not like it's amoral (another parent issue). If you still don't feel comfortable speaking with your parents about this, this group can be a great ally as well as (if this applies where you live -I'm in the US) reaching out to your local librarian (that's what I am^_^). You do what you love to do, never compromise.

Some manga can be a bit on the perverted side or needlessly violent like any other medium out there which a 13 year old probably should not be exposed to unless they have their parental approval. What books were you reading/anime watching before you were banned? Or is it because she was afraid your entertainment was affecting your school grades?

Yeah that is common enough. Hopefully she will come around once she sees it doesn't make much of a difference. In the mean time study well and get a good job you can afford all sorts of Anime and Manga when you get older. :)

Yeah, the schools in my town are uber accelerated and the parents are only focused on grades and college/university. Some of the kids are so spooked that their parents are watching I have to reassure them that whatever they read or watch in the library will not go any further than me. You do you and I will have your back.
I, personally, would never have watched Tokyo Ghoul that young (even if it was around) -I was not into blood and gore like that back then .I love it now though!!! If you haven't seen it yet, definitely check out Blood+. It is amazing, bloody, and has some good twists. If you want/need any more recs, feel free to message me!

I’m Yazarah (well thats my author name lol)
I’ve been on Goodreads a while but never thought about joining a group, this one looked friendly and not so serious as some of the others so decided to try it out.

I mostly like fantasy, magic, supernatural and horror. Some of my all time favourite mangas are Black Butler, Death Note, Ajin and Darker than Black.

Hi Yazarah. Nice to meet you. :)
I don't think the majority of groups are too serious (or for the matter active) so don't be afraid to branch out into other groups too. You never know...you may be the fresh blood needed to reignite a groups passion into action. :)
Pulls out translator...Ahh you said Nice to meet you too and Thank you. I guess you are welcome though you were the one nice enough to come here. :)

Thank you, I'll try checking out other groups too, I'm just not very confident with social media most of the time (I legit only have Instagram) so I just need to dive in.
Hehe sorry for the Japanese, just wanted to spice things up and I'm learning Japanese at the moment.

Hi Taylor. Variety is the spice of life and I hope you find as many manga as you have interests. I have read books from all over the spectrum and I can assure you there are some bad ones and there are great ones so enjoy your journey of discovery. :)
