It's so cool that you study Japanese! I used to be able to read quite a bit, but I sort of neglected studying the kanji and I've pretty much forgotten everything now :P I've still got a few books lying around, but I haven't really had the motivation to start learning again haha :) I hope your studies go well!!

I also enjoy watching anime, mystery dramas, medical dramas, Asian dramas, British dramas and comedies and all kinds of movies...most especially horror...I tend to watch any ghost/haunting horrors I can get my hands on! I also enjoy computer and console gaming. My husband and I are both addicted to watching other gamers on YouTube and Twitch!!
My hobbies other than reading include: on-line surfing, hanging with friends, visiting the beach, and being with my family. I am an animal lover, currently I have a Pomeranian (Remy) and a chihuahua (Milo).
I am always looking for friends and reading recommendations, so feel free to friend me, and it's great to meet you! :)

My name's Maryam, and I absolutely love anime and manga. Heck, I'm passionate about Japanese culture and history in general; I'm admittedly a history geek! Life's been keeping me busy, which has in turn affected how much anime I'm able to watch, but I hope to get back to my animanga soon. Oh, and video games are also a huge part of my life! c:
Favorite anime: Natsume Yuujinchou and Gintama
Runner-ups: Sakamichi no Apollon, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and Parayste
Favorite manga: Natsume Yuujinchou, Saraiya Goyou, and Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan
I'm new to Goodreads, and I hope I can make some new acquaintances! ^.^ Recommendations are welcome.

I look forward to chatting with all of you! :)

I would like to try and be more active in groups for 2016 so I ended up coming here. : )
I'm not too good at striking up conversations so I sometimes find it difficult to be active in groups but here's a try for starters;
My name is Lara and I like reading both manga and novels. I haven't been reading too many manga lately because I needed to read several novels for university. I used to work at a comic store (which I dearly miss but I moved away..!) and I'm currently reading/rereading all manga I own in publication order. It'll be a very slow process as I am still busy with university but that's ok.
I already know some nice people from this group but it's nice meeting new people too so - hope I'll be able to be active, haha : )

Currently I'm reading and watching Fairy Tail, Tokyo Ghoul and some series that just startet here in Austria.
My favourite Anime is Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and I guess it's my favourite Manga too ^.^

I remember my first anime experience (besides the Americanized Astroboy and Volton titles) was Ranma 1/2 at a garage sale from a family that came from Japan and was I mesmerised by the silly characters and action even (though it was not so easy for me to keep up with the subtitles at the time.) Since then I have Collected every episode of Ranma 1/2 on DVD as well as other titles like One Piece, Fairy Tail, Ah! My Goddess, and several full sets put out when the format of collecting changed from Several episodes released at a time to full sets.
So basically even though my knowledge of Japanese animation is not so up to date at times I am always glad to hear about what others are watching and my interests in Manga are still going strong (sometimes I worry I collect more then I can keep up with.)
Best wishes,
Ian

That's the great thing about goodreads. I use it to ensure I keep track of my books (don't need duplicates) and according to it I am presently up to 967 Manga already so it shouldn't be to hard. :)

One of the fastest ways I have found to put you book in is by using the International Standard Book Number (ISBN for short and usually located around the barcode.) If you put it in that search box in the upper right part of the page correctly the book should show up by the end of the 13th digit (not sure if it works on the 10 digit version or not.)
Of course it takes time to add shelves to your book depending on how many you want. :)

My name is Caroline. I'm more of an anime viewer than I am a manga reader but still enjoy both.
I have to say I'm pretty happy there's an active anime group on here.

Lots of good action. The most brutal being Sailor Moon with her instant kill tiaras. :) Just kidding about that but that is an impressive list none the less. :)

One of my favorite times is when I find buy one(or two) and get one free sales on Manga. Of course it helps if it is around a time I have spare money to spend. :)
You are welcomed to look at my Manga Shelf here for ideas but some of them are older titles so not as easy to get anymore.

These are great days for anime watching. Not only do whole series get released at once instead of four episodes at a time (in Japan it was only 2 I hear) but we can also see things streamed. Just the other day I saw the first episodes of Snow White with the Red Hair that I enjoyed. :)

Is that any good ian?"
You can find it simulcasted on the Funimation webpage, Why not try it yourself. :) http://www.funimation.com/shows/snow-...

Thank you! Would love to give a look.

I completely agree! There's also a lot of diversity in genres with anime, which I really like, although I guess it's always been like that. I'll check out the Snow White one, thanks!
What are your personal favorites? (I wonder if this is already a thread...)

I'm Mégane, 19 and I'm from France. I'm happy to have found a group about manga & anime, I'm a huuuge fan since 2008, so much that it's one of the reasons of why I began to learn japanese at school. It's always a pleasure to talk about it with people. :D
I do like reading-watching shôjo/josei a loooot (Ai Yazawa is currently my favourite mangaka) but also shônen, seinen etc. In fact as long as the story is interesting, well developped, the characters well written and the drawing is good I'm in!
Here some examples (famous ones) : Nana, Naruto, Bleach, Kimi ni Todoke, Paradise Kiss, ReLIFE, Noragami, Haikyuu!, KnB, Death Note.
Look forward to share a lot with each of you and feel free to add my as a friend ! ☆彡

I really enjoy Studio Ghibli stuff and in particular the Cat Returns (I even have the manga.) Series wise I have been slowly collecting One Piece through Funimation and just recently watched the 2nd Season of Fairy Tail who both have strong messages about the value of friendship that I enjoy. There are so many to chose from but two of my favorites would have to be Gurren Lagann and Gun X Sword. :)

Hi there Susan, :)
I have read the first three volumes of Kamisama Kiss and have seen the anime. If you haven't seen or read it yet might I suggest that one. :)

Nice to meet you Mégane <---copy and paste for the win :).
For a good story with interesting characters be sure to try Monster by Naoki Urasawa. The characters are more realistic looking and it deals with the inner turmoils of various characters as they deal with obsessions that all start with one particular event.

I have a crunchyroll account so I get a lot from their digital library. I started reading Yamada-Kun & the Seven Witches & the Seven Deadly Sins since they're on there & I'm liking them a lot.

Hi there Meghan with an h. :)
Glad to hear you have so many interesting series.. Did you hear Fruit Baskets is coming out through Yen Press later this year as well as two additional titles by Natsuki Takaya? :)

Hi Will,
Don't forget One Punch Man and perhaps you will like The Heroic Legends of Arslan(from the creator of Fullmetal Panic.) :)

Welcome Meghan and Will !!
