Lily, Jason's mom, looked up at Rise with her tear-streaked face, rushing over and hugging her tightly. "Oh honey," she whispered. "We're so glad you're here."
"We are," Alan added to his wife, his voice husky from crying.

Jason's parents stood. "We're going to get some food, and we'll give you some time with him," Lily said gently. She patted her husbands arm and then walked out with him and Trevor following behind.

Rise sat beside his bed, frowning softly. He looked broken. Very broken. Bruises and cuts marred his face, neck, and arms. A single tear fell down her cheek and she swiped it away. She couldn't lose him.

"Umm... I don't know what's going on," Jason muttered, more to himself than to anyone else. It was just all so confusing to him. Well, they had told him about memory loss and all, but it was... strange.

Rise stared numbly at her note book then tossed it on the coffee table. She turned onto her stomach and cried into the couch pillow. God, this sucked. She couldn't imagine how he was feeling but she knew she was hurting.

Trevor met them at the door, giving Jason's parents stressed smiles.

Rise walked out of her room. Her face was still a little red from crying and her eyes were bloodshot. She ran a hand through her hair and walked downstairs with Trevor. She hugged Alan and Lily then smiled politely at Jason.

Rise worried her bottom lip, cringing at the coppery taste of blood. She'd busted it. Rise looked over Jason, her eyes lingering on the scratches on his arms.
((Crap. I didn't think this through...))

"Let's just give them some time alone, to talk," his mother said softly, grabbing her husbands' arm and pulling him back up. "Let's go outside. It's a nice day," Alan said, motioning towards Trevor to come and join him.
Jason knew what they were trying to do, but he was still nervous, even as they weren't here.

Rise tried not to panic as all the adults left. She knew that Jason didn't remember the sign language that she'd taught him. Rise grabbed her notebook and pen then wrote, How are you? Rise handed the notebook to him
