SOLVED. Children's Alternative History: Story of a boy in an America that didn't win the revolutionary war [s]

From what I remember this novel is about a young boy, probably 12-13, who is living in a post-revolutionary America. However, the Americans didn't win the war. I don't remember many plot points, but I do remember the boy meeting Benjamin Franklin. They were in a hot, humid area, and Ben Franklin had created some sort of air conditioner.

I remember reading this in 2007-8. It may have been above my reading level at the time (I was 11-12) because I remember not understanding much. It was a paperback and seemed quite old. I don't remember the cover, but I think it was red.

Could it be Seventh Son or another of the Alvin Maker series? Benjamin Franklin is apparently mentioned a lot although he doesn't actually appear.

I don't think so. There was no magic and it was grounded in reality. Thanks for the help though.
