Currently reading Color A Natural History of the Palette by Victoria Finlay. I'm fascinated to learn how color is so much a part of anthropology. There is a good deal about history and how color has played a part in the economies of nations. A thoroughly enjoyable and informative read. This is my first post and the 16th book I've read this year. Looks like it will be a challenge to read 50.
not quite as far along as I had hoped I would be by now, work and other factors are affecting my available free time for reading. Still I have 19/50 completed and I'm working on 20 & 21 right now, should have them completed by July 1. Hopefully I can get into a new series while I'm waiting for some new releases from my go-to authors and blast through some books this summer.

I just found this group yesterday, so I'm really behind. I'm reading Jane Eyre right now and that will be my 12th book of the year. I probably won't make it, but I'm going to try. This is my third book of the week, so if I can keep that pace, I will make it.
Hi all! I just found this group last night and I counted up and I am at 36 (if I didn't forget a few) so I am on track! Yahoooo!!
I'm reading my #27 books at the moment.. 23 more to go. Currently reading And Then You Die by Iris Johansen
I'm a new poster, but I've read nearly 50 books already this year. The best book I've read so far in 2010 is The Swan Thieves: superior writing!
I'm amazed I've done 31 so far this year. I have a couple of longer books on my TBR list, so maybe now I won't be afraid of not making it to 50 if I read them.

I just finished 32 yesterday and I believe that I will finish "Billy Boy" today to give me 33...I'll shoot for 60 now!

At first, I was a bit intimidated by its size, but it flew so fast after I got into the first few pages! Glad you loved it as well!
I am finishing off book 28, and have a stack that I cannot wait to get to. After Pomegranate Soup, I am thinking The 19th Wife. Any thoughts?
I've read 36 so far. Working on 37 right now...the last few weeks have been slow...I haven't been able to find a book that intrigues me!
Thanks Jeff! I'll have to take a look. I've heard of The Heretic's Daughter and I've thought of reading it, so maybe I'll read it sooner rather than later! :) I'll have to take a look at The Lonely Polygamist...I haven't heard of it...
It sounds interesting! I'll be looking at the local library today for them or I'll order them to read! Thanks again!
Jeff wrote: "Emma, I read 19th Wife last year & loved it. One of the best. You'll enjoy it. Some pretty enlightening things about Mormonism, & not really in a good way."Glad you liked it! I can't wait to get into it. I have always had a fascination with Mormons and the FLDS polygamists since visiting Utah every year since I was young (my brother still lives there). While I feel the need to constantly defend the Mormons who are not part of the FLDS (the party the polygamists are part of), I am always curious to read others' interpretations!

I read it right after the Physick Book of Deliverance Dane, and it went perfectly with it for some reason. I would also recommend that one. I felt right into the world of the character within the first few pages. And definitely pick up Heretic!
I have read 37 books for 2010 and instead of number crunching and aiming for 60 or 70 books which I could do if I continued at the same rate, I have decided to read some epics which are a challenge because of length or carefully study a dual-language book and study other languages. Some of the epics on my TBR list are Ulysses, Our Mutual Friend, The Stand, and Bleak House. the dual Language books are Faust (German and English) and a collection of French Literature. I think doing a specific number is a good way to goal set and read more but I personally want to refine the goal qualitatively instead of quantitatively. I am not going to avoid some of my quick pleasure reads but I am going to not rush so much.
Sheila, funny thing about The Stand. Back in college when my budget was tight I picked it up thinking it would last me a good little while and burned through it in a couple days. Funny how little time something can take once it engages you. Enjoy your epic challenge!

Give yourself a full calendar year, unless you read really fast or really like the pressure!
Oh dear, I've only managed 13 so far this year (lucky nr. 13 being American Gods by Neil Gaiman), other things just keeping cutting into my reading time! Hope to catch up in the coming months though as I'll be spending more time on the train getting to work than now. Plus, maybe I'll cheat a little bit and start picking some thinner books. ;-)
I am just getting into Wilkie Collins' The Moonstone, and am totally loving it. I read his Woman in White last summer, and was enraptured. What's particularly surprising to me is that these books were written so long ago: they both have a freshness about them.Rose
Interesting. I loved The Moonstone and The Woman in White, but hated Drood. I realize Simmons was trying to copy a 19th-century style, but I thought the book would have been so much better if at least a third of it had been cut out.
I like hearing opposing views. I'll definitely be giving Drood a try--going to the library in a few days.Rose

Anyone want to feel superior? I'm on #15, but it's "Middlemarch" as quality is also not a bad focus, right? Or are you too busy feeling smug with your huge numbers?
School has taken up a lot of my time in the past 6 months. Currently on 23, but know I have to work on reading more during the summer to ensure I make the goal of 50 by the end of the year. Good luck and happy reading to you all! :)
Jill wrote: "Anyone want to feel superior? I'm on #15, but it's "Middlemarch" as quality is also not a bad focus, right? Or are you too busy feeling smug with your huge numbers?"I applaud you! While a specific number is good basic goal to get one to read more what it really comes down to is quality and comprehension.. I hope you love "Middlemarch" as much as I did. It took me about 3 months to read it but well worth the challenge.( I alternated between other lighter reads)

Well, one of the books I've read this year is War and Peace. However, I will say I would never recommend anyone else read it--nor Middlemarch! Rose

I'm reading number 35, but I am retired, so I made an effort in the beginning of the year to get a good start.

I agree, I didnt get alot of reading done because of school, but the summer will be a great time for me to catch up too. :)
I have just recently joined but from what I can remember reading. (Not including the library books and other books my dog decided he wanted to educate himself with. Let's just say I had to result to buying a Nook, which has made buying books on it addictive. So much space.)1.
