WOW! i WISH i had that kind of time to read. i started the challenge in march, so i'm actually going to go for 50 in a year - not necessarily calendar year. i'm going march to march. should i complete 50 by january 1, well bonus for me. good job though to you and congratulations.

Welcome Leslie - I think you'll make it fine. The year is only halfway over. I keep plugging away - I'm not sure where my count is at, but I'm sure I'll get there, too!

I also loved Swan Thieves! At first, I was a bit intimidated by its size, but it flew so fast after I got into the first few pages! Glad you loved it as well!
I am finishing off book 28, and have a stack that I cannot wait to get to. After Pomegranate Soup, I am thinking The 19th Wife. Any thoughts?

Thanks again!

Glad you liked it! I can't wait to get into it. I have always had a fascination with Mormons and the FLDS polygamists since visiting Utah every year since I was young (my brother still lives there). While I feel the need to constantly defend the Mormons who are not part of the FLDS (the party the polygamists are part of), I am always curious to read others' interpretations!

I read the Heretic's Daughter this past winter and loved it! I read it right after the Physick Book of Deliverance Dane, and it went perfectly with it for some reason. I would also recommend that one. I felt right into the world of the character within the first few pages. And definitely pick up Heretic!

Really?! Oh that is very interesting, I cannot wait for it! I thought for a debut novel, it was excellent!

My suggestion would be to start your calendar year with when you started reading for this challenge. Give yourself a full calendar year, unless you read really fast or really like the pressure!

Thanks for the tip! I'll add it to my to read list.
Anyone want to feel superior? I'm on #15, but it's "Middlemarch" as quality is also not a bad focus, right? Or are you too busy feeling smug with your huge numbers?

:)

I applaud you! While a specific number is good basic goal to get one to read more what it really comes down to is quality and comprehension.. I hope you love "Middlemarch" as much as I did. It took me about 3 months to read it but well worth the challenge.( I alternated between other lighter reads)

2. An Unspoken Hunger: Stories from the Field by Terry Tempest Williams
3. Angle of Repose by Wallace Stegner
4. Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi
5. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer
6. Life on the Refrigerator Door by Alice Kuipers
7. A Fraction of the Whole by Steve Toltz
8. Blonde Roots by Bernardine Evaristo
9. The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen
10. Jennifer Government by Max Barry
11. Company by Max Barry
12. The Giver by Lois Lowry
13. Secrets of Eden: A Novel by Chris Bohjalian
14. The Crying Tree: A Novel by Naseem Rakha
15. Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen
16. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
17. The Girl Who Fell From the Sky by Heidi W. Durrow
18. Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg
19. The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith
20. Tears of the Giraffe by Alexander McCall Smith
21. Dune by Frank Herbert
22. Dune Messiah by Frank Herbert
23. In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts: Close Encounters with Addiction by Gabor Mate
24. Friends, Lovers, Chocolate by Alexander McCall Smith
25. The Spellmans Strike Again by Lisa Lutz
26. One for the Money by Janet Evanovich
27. Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn
28. Sundogs: A Novel by Lee Maracle

Working on

"School has taken up a lot of my time in the past 6 months. Currently on 23, but know I have to work on reading more during the summer to ensure I make the goal of 50 by the end of the year."
I agree, I didnt get alot of reading done because of school, but the summer will be a great time for me to catch up too. :)
