If Lizzy accepted the first proposal, the entire relationship would have been different. She would have implicitly accepted that she was inferior to Darcy along with the proposal. She had to reject him or the book would have shifted into a story about a subservient woman.

It would totally depend on what stage of my knowing Mr. Darcy. In the early stages of the story, not very likely I would accept. He was very snooty and snobbish.
But the more vulnerable and caring Mr. Darcy that showed up later, well who would not? Who does not like a happy ending. (Okay, you out there may say it does not matter, but really it does!!!)

Well, that would depend, I guess. Would I have said "yes"? After which proposal? The first one? Probably not. But you have me thinking...
What if Elizabeth had accepted Darcy's first proposal? Would she and Darcy have achieved the harmony and respect and love that they found for each other, after circumstances had made them both bend a little bit?
How long would it have taken them to get to that point?

I would reject him gently. I am not the type of girl to fall in love with a guy like that.
At the first proposal, Darcy might have loved Lizzy, But she had nothing but contempt for him.
So if a guy who is handsome and rich would propose to me while I didn't respect him, my answer would be the same. No. Don't think I would say what Lizzy said though haha.
But if a guy like Darcy would propose and I would know him to be true and just at heart: hell yeah! I would jump at the chance ;)

Most young ladies would have happily accepted Mr Darcy's proposal as a secure match for themselves & their family.Elizabeth had a forthright mind one that had been encouraged by her father. My question would be what if Wickham had proposed to Elizabeth would she have said Yes?
No. I would say yes to Mr. Darcy. But I would have definitely said YES to a certain Mr. Thornton of Milton in North and South :)
My response would be "First i would like to befriend him and know him a little bit more and then decide on marriage."
That's a big question and an important one at that. If I knew the man well and truly loved him, of course I'd say yes. I admire the character and traits of Mr. Darcy, but admiration is not the only reason one should accept a marriage proposal.
Something on the lines of "Sorry but I am not gay. But if I was I would totally think about it."
It would depend on what side of Mr. Darcy i would have experienced....The high class rich guy who thinks the other common people are inferior to him and since he is rich and if he proposes anyone, she will marry him right away then its going to be a big NO from me. On the contrary if he is the sweet and caring guy who watches out for everyone and cares for the well being of others and not taking credit for whatever has done and not being pompous about it, then i would be the lucky one to say a hundreds of YES !!!! A guy who is rich, handsome, caring and who loves you to death..... What else would any girl want !!!!!!!!
