Justin (justinbienvenue) | 460 comments I know what your thinking...what? How can a book have no main character? Is it a non-fiction book or poetry? Nope. Plain and simple, what are your thoughts about a fiction book written with a thorough storyline and plot but no true main character? Is is possible and if so how would it fair?

Philip (phenweb) | 93 comments I presume there is an ensemble cast?

From what I have seen most readers, me included, like lead characters that they can love or hate but at least identify with. The closest ideas to this could be some of the ensemble movies where there is a no star actor or rather there may be multiple stars but no "lead".

It can work but it's a harder path.

L.F. Falconer | 63 comments It's entirely possible to successfully write a story without a main character, as long as you give the reader "something" to identify with...such as a worthy cause or shared ideology. Such things can take the place of a "character" to cheer for and believe in.
