Lori Garside (thechronicromantic) | 12 comments I'd like to read Middlesex. I know absolutely nothing about cricket, so Ponting would either be really good or really bad!

Lori Garside (thechronicromantic) | 12 comments Zara -oh, what the heck! I will read Ponting with you in November! I may learn a thing or two.

message 253: by Zara's Retreat (new)

Zara's Retreat | 2365 comments Excellent Lori. I'll add it to the list.

Trinity I'll read Delirium with you if you'd like. I've read a little bit but haven't gotten around to getting back to it.

I would be interested in starting Ulysses in May. I'm stuck on Gravity's Rainbow so my head might explode. I'ld be much better with June.

Is that for Ulysses or Middlesex?

Ulysses. Did you want Middlesex as well or instead of Ulysses?

message 261: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire6452) | 718 comments Good luck to everyone doing Ulysses. It's quite a challenge.

I've tried three times, and I just can't do it. I don't think I've made it past the first hundred pages.

I don't think I'll be ready for Ulysses, especially with all the groaning on the thread. lol. seriously struggling already with Pynchon & it will spillover to at least May. Any takers for Gravity's Rainbow?

message 263: by Lilac (new)

Lilac (lilac_wales) | 910 comments Maybe Ulysses could be a two month thing? May and June? Even though I want to read it soon I have exams in May so I might not be able to finish such a difficult sounding book.

Hi Lilac, I'd be quite happy to turn Ulysses into a two month thing. That's probably really wise.

I'll add a thread for this book for the May buddy reads.

message 268: by Zara's Retreat (new)

Zara's Retreat | 2365 comments For those of us who'll be reading 1Q84 beginning in May: As this is a trilogy what do you all think about us reading one book a month over a three month period? Or would you prefer to leave it as is?

message 269: by Sydney (new)

Sydney (sydsawyer18) awesome! This will give me some incentive to read it instead of picking up random new books at the library haha

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 773 comments Zara wrote: "For those of us who'll be reading 1Q84 beginning in May: As this is a trilogy what do you all think about us reading one book a month over a three month period? Or would you prefer ..."

I have the Audible book, which has all 3 parts, but I think I'll be able to tell where each part ends. I may add the Kindle version, which will let me switch between reading and listening. I do see that that one definitely notes where each of the 3 books begins and ends.

I'm not opposed to stretching this one over 3 months, particularly since I'll also be reading Ulysses and some other books of 500+ pages.

Kathryn | 581 comments Hey Zara, Alison and I are planning to read The Fault in Our Stars sometime in May. Can we get that set up as a buddy read, please?

And if anyone else is interested in reading and discussing with us, we'd love you to join in!

Hi Alexis!! I'm interesting in reading any of these:

1-Just one Day by Gale Foremen
2-Eleanor & Park Rainbow Rowell
3-The cuckoo's Calling

It would have to be in June though, if that's okay? and any of these would be fine for me!

message 277: by Lilac (last edited May 07, 2014 10:41AM) (new)

Lilac (lilac_wales) | 910 comments Anyone want to read anything by Charles Dickens in July or (preferably) August? I've already read A Tale of Two Cities, Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol and Great Expectations, but any of the others would be fine. I bought a collection with all or most of his books and don't know which to read first.

Jackie | 48 comments Jodi wrote: "I am looking to read The Thorn Birds probably starting in the middle to end of next week."

This is a wonderful book. I couldn't put it down when I read it, but I'm not ready for something new just yet. Would be willing in the future though.

Lilac, have you found anyone to read Dickens with you yet? I plan to read at least one of his books this summer, leaning toward Bleak House to start in the second half of July. I already have both the Kindle and Audiobook versions ready. Would you be interested in that one?

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 773 comments Jackie wrote: "Theresa~OctoberLace wrote: "Zara, among other books, I've got both The Emperor of All Maladies and Fatherland next month, so can we start Middlemarch in Nov..."

Jackie, you picked up on an old post from last year. We originally planned Middlemarch for November 2013, but life got in the way, and it was re-scheduled for March of this year. Quite appropriately, I finished in the middle of March and thoroughly enjoyed the book. I hope you find some readers to join in with you for another buddy read of this one.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 773 comments Ramsha wrote: "Has anyone read Wonder or is someone going to read it???please tell me"

Ramsha, are inquiring about Wonder by R.J. Palacio? I have not read that one, but a much younger friend has, and she loved it. It's not in my plans, but hopefully you can find someone to read it with you.

Yes, Theresa, Bleak House would be great. :)
Shall we make it a July buddy read then?

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 773 comments Bleak House is over 1000 pages. Shall we make it a July-August read?

message 287: by Lilac (new)

Lilac (lilac_wales) | 910 comments Yeah, good plan. I didn't realise it was that long. Seems I'll be reading many very long books this summer.

message 288: by Zara's Retreat (new)

Zara's Retreat | 2365 comments Lilac and Theresa I'll set the thread up for Bleak House now. I admire you both for wanting to read this book.

I can! But preferably in August.

message 292: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (lmelliott) | 686 comments Adam and I are planning to read Winter of the World by Ken Follett in August. This is part two of the Century Trilogy....part 3 is due to be published in September 2014. Would any participants in the Feb-March Fall of Giants Buddy Read (or anybody) like to join in?

message 293: by Lilac (new)

Lilac (lilac_wales) | 910 comments I'll join in Winter of the World! I need to read Fall of Giants First but I'm definitely in because I want to be able to read the third one when it comes out in September.

message 294: by Cosmic (new)

Cosmic Arcata | 919 comments Please add me to bleak house. I have read it once but would like to revisit it with you.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 773 comments Lynn, Adam, and Lilac, I've already read Fall of Giants and Winter of the World, so I hope you enjoy those.

Edge of Eternity is the final book of the trilogy, due out 9/16/14. Would you be interested in a Buddy Read for that one in November and December? That would give readers time to finish the first two and get a copy of the third.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 773 comments Cosmic wrote: "Please add me to bleak house. I have read it once but would like to revisit it with you."

Cosmic, there are only a couple of us planning to read Bleak House, so I'm glad to see you'll be joining, too. I'm hoping to start that one next week.

I think books this size are especially good for buddy reads. I'd love to read book 3 in Nov/Dec.
