Does it get over the political rants?

I read Baby and really liked it, and had the first few chapters of Echo at the end. After to reading the first few pages, I'm about to give out on the series. How am I suppose to believe people moved to London because we got socialized healthcare? That is like someone moving to Hawaii to get away from the beach. Now I have only read the first few pages, so should I carry on or just move on?

There is a requirement of suspension of judgement when you are reading about an alien who can solve everyone's problems and create a gold tree house. So if you can suspend your judgement you should continue, if you can't then the book will make you miserable.
