emailing pdfs for arr...safe?

I have emailed pdfs in the past for arr but recently ive startedto worry more about people stealing or pirating my book. My pdf has my copyright info in it not that that would stop someone from sharing it with others. I have an arr request right now and I gave her a smashwords coupon but she doesn't have an account. So long story short is it safe to send out pdfs?

Hi Heidi-

Some might argue that sharing those pdfs is good advertising, and I am inclined to agree. The more who know about your book and love it, the more they will spread the word to others.

I would guess that unless your book is a best seller or overnight success, you need not worry. I guess it has to come down to a trust issue with those you send your work to. I don't worry about sending out mine, and if anyone did share the files, I hope they would write a review!

What's the difference between smashwords coupons and sending directly? In the end it's the same pdf. If they have bad intentions, nothing will stop them. Besides, it's copyrighted and already published on smashwords.

Smashwords accounts are easy to set up, and give the user a choice of download formats. However, it also gives the Author addition firepower in their armour of proof, if their work is blatantly copied. Call it checks and balances.
