Jonathan (nathandjoe) | 5 comments There is a nice list for you to select from here:

Sean (seanjdobson) Rebecca has been on my list for a while so I should probably tackle that, but I'm interested in Vita Sackville-West because of the Woolf connection.

Rod (baron_von_rodenheimer) | 1 comments Is this a recommendation thread, or is that more of a rhetorical question that we're supposed to ask ourselves?

Assuming it's the former, I would recommend two Comyns, Who Was Changed and Who Was Dead followed by Sisters by a River, both of which are fantastic.

Both! Both is good. Along with others.

Lynne King Thanks for the list Jonathan. I think that I will go with Rebecca. I read this book years ago and I have a really battered book that my father purchased from a bookseller in Charing Cross Road. I'm interested to see how I view this book now...

Sean, if you are interested in Vita Sackville West, do read All Passion Spent. I read this book recently and I was so taken with it that I was unable to write a review!

Mercurialgem | 9 comments Yes that list is very handy.........since I'm currently reading Wharton........I'll go with House of Mirth for August.

message 8: by Mariel (new)

Mariel (fuchsiagroan) The Ha-Ha is so good and also The Shutter of Snow. The only thing I dislike about virago are the blurbs playing up comedy of books as if that's their primary soul when it isn't. They did that for Holmes Coleman and Barbara Heym and made me wonder if they read said books....

message 9: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan (nathandjoe) | 5 comments Totally agree - they also have a tendency to blurb everything as though it were a romantic novel of the most cliched type...

Great! I will start there.

Guy | 4 comments There's a miniseries version of All Passion Spent that is well worth watching.

Heather | 4 comments Hello - Not sure if this is the correct place for this but I have several VMCs that are duplicates for me (I can't pass them up when I run across them!) and would be happy to send them to anyone who would like them.

2 copies of South Riding by Winifred Holtby
The Rising Tide by Molly Keane (M.J. Farrell)

Let me know if you are interested.

Hi Heather, Many thanks for posting your duplicates here. Since this group isn't very active, a better place to offer them is in the Virago Group on Librarything. https://www.librarything.com/topic/19...

Are you a member there? It's a really lovely group that has been together for many years. Do have a look if you aren't already a member. We'd love to see you there.

Happy weekend!
Cate
