I'm up to episode 3. It's different from the book so far but I'm ok with it. Can't wait to see this "crazy" ending lol

@Jill - yes - im not gonna say so i don't spoil it for you. i watched the show before reading hidden bodies, so i expected hidden bodies to begin the way the show left off (even though the book and tv show ended differently) so that significant difference would be clarified but uhm no. so i am curious to see how different season 2 will be from the books now or if certain things will be addressed then instead of season 1.

i know what you mean about not liking the characters. i felt like the book characters of both beck and joe were a lot less likeable than the tv show portrayals. book beck was a lot bitchier and more self-centered and book joe was just downright creepy. the tv show joe was a lot funnier with his thoughts and even though he was also creepy he didn't seem as psycho.

Especially with the whole Paco storyline..I'm still working by way through the show. On episode 6 now

@Jill ohmygoodness yes!!!! my mom and husband both watched the show before i did and were talking about that whole storyline and i was like who's he??? that's not in the book! and Joe is so caring and compassionate with him you almost cant believe he is the same person with all the other evil things he is doing. that also made me more likeable on the tv show for me.

yes it was creepy reading that and pretty much most of the book. the next book kind of goes right into where it left off so i was kind of glad i got to read that very close to when i finished this book.

Wow so (view spoiler)[ Candace is still alive? My husband said Joe might be hallucinating again, but I think she's real. Kind of bizarre since we know she's dead in chapter 2. Are they totally changing the book and she's alive? And I knew Paco would have a hand in one of his killings. And that he would ultimately kill Beck. IDK how I feel about the whole Paco storyline. Like, who cares? And I'm pissed that Beck came off as this nice girl and not psycho like she is in the book. (hide spoiler)]

@Jill yup! i guess that is possible but i didn't think that he is and neither did my mom nor husband (who didn't read the book). i don't quite get WHY they made such a drastic difference that to me ties into the second book so i am interested to see where things go from there.

So this book was a little hard for me to get into at first. I think having the narrator being Joe the stalker was cool but different. Talk about one heck of a creepy dude.

Joe is really quite creepy and the way he talks about Beck and the things he wants to do to her...delusional for sure.

Anyone find it weird that Mr.Mooney has a huge (view spoiler)[cage in the basement? Do you think it was weird when Mr. Mooney locked Joe into the cage? Just when I was wondering if this guy locked other things or people in this cage then Joe tells about a time when Mr. Mooney put him in the cage. This kid never had a chance at a normal life. Joe made reference to a lady who took a book or something and it sounded like she may have been put in that cage or maybe he wanted to catch her for Mr. Mooney. (hide spoiler)]
What does everyone think when he decides kidnap (view spoiler)[ Benji and lock him in the cage? Obviously he's going to have to kill him since Benji could tell on him and would. Benji acts like it's no big deal. He panics when Joe pulls out the machete but Joe is toying. Joe is a freak in my opinion (hide spoiler)]

And I feel like all of the characters in this book are somehow messed up. I'm not really into the 'therapists falls for his patient' trope, though. I've seen it one too many times...

(view spoiler)[Oh, wow, this was such a wild ride! I really loved this book, because nobody is really likable, but I have to admit that Beck is the character I like least. Of course she is just as mentally ill as Joe is, but honestly - and that is 100% due to the fact that the story is told from Joe's perspective - I just felt more for Joe than I did for her. In real life all of these characters would need a treatment by a therapist. Just not Dr Nicky, please.... (hide spoiler)]

What is anyone's opinion of this book so far? I would love to know. I think the things Joe does and says and thinks in his mind is whacked but then again he's a stalker so that right there proves he's a bit off but wow he is unhinged.

I really dislike Peach and the way she treats everyone but Beck. Until Joe pointed out that she has a thing for Beck I didn't see it until then. I guess stalking makes you very observant of those surrounding the one you are fixated on. Peach needs to be very careful or she will wind up like Benji. Joe killed Benji and got rid of his body. Beck winds up at Joe's apartment and all the stuff he's stolen out of her place is all over his apartment. He's stolen bras, panties, her t-shirts and a bikini top, as well as her phone. He keeps tabs on her through her emails and texts to her friends.

Joe finds out that Beck lied about her dad being a dead junkie. He's alive and well and has a new family he met through a church group and Beck feels like the outsider to his new family. Of course Joe knows where she will be and follows her to this town she is meeting her dad in but he doesn't know it's her father and thinks she meeting in some hotel room with some guy named Captain. He's freaked out and then he's mad that she lied. He seems to get more and more unhinged.

Very freaky kind of book but the one thing I have in common with Joe is I don't like Peach. I wonder if Joe does away with her like he did Benji. We'll see.... (hide spoiler)]

OMGosh, I just ended my review with the same kind of comment. I said I have one thing in common with Joe and that's how much I dislike Peach. I bet he tries to get rid of her soon. She is after all an obstacle and he seems to remove all obstacles from his way to Beck. Peach is one I would like to see go too.

Also you aren't crazy to ship him and Beck. If he wasn't a killer and unstable and totally fixated on her he would be perfect for her :) I actually think they would be a great couple if he didn't kill off people he sees a threat. A small part of me is routing for Joe and Beck. I guess that makes me a little crazy too. I think we are supposed to like Joe in a strange way

I loved it! The ending was a bit much imo, so I'm interested if the book's different :) Joe is great in the show, so I think it's definitely worth a watch :)

I only just started the show but only watched up until I thought the show would give away the rest of the book BUT the show is pretty different then the book so I stopped watching until I could finish the book. I do like the book and some weird part of me likes Joe. I find myself laughing at him and things he says and does so much. Should I be worried about what that says about me...lol...I like a stalker that kills people....hmmmmm

First I love Becks friends Lynn and Chana and I love how much they don't like Peach. The way Peach blew you giving her a smiley face balloon when she was in hospital completely out of proportion was ridiculous. It is the thought that counts and Peach is a drama queen who wants Becks undivided attention at all times. It's obvious that Beck doesn't swing in Peach's direction. She is really into men. Peach is a little obsessive as well as Joe. (hide spoiler)]

What does anyone think of Karen Minty and Dr.Nicky? Do you guys think that either of them are going to get killed or do you think Joe will spare them? (view spoiler)[ I left off with Joe looking through the Doc's computer and I don't know if he'll see something that could get the good old Doc killed. That will be known soon in the next chapter. I'm not sure if Karen will let go of Joe. I hope so because that could be what would get her killed if she doesn't go quietly...lol....she doesn't strike me as the quiet type. Another hiccup for Joe to handle. I hope for her sake she goes and doesn't look back

there are A LOT of differences between the book and tv show. i thought book-Joe seems more obsessive and creepy and book-Beck seems way more psycho, self-centered, and bitchy in the book. the tv show versions they are still whacked but for me both tv-show characters were a lot more likeable - tv-Beck seems nice and like she is just trying to fit in and tv-Joe came across as witty, humorous, and actually compassionate at times.

a few spoilery major differences - wait to read these if you haven't finished the book or tv show and don't want spoilers:

and uhm yah the whole thing with Candace being alive at the end of the tv show??? what about Amy???? and if Joe didn't kill Candace when and why did he start his stalker/ killer tendencies as all of that was explained in the book....

then the question i have is how are they going to lead into the next season? are they going to follow the second book the way hidden bodies picks up after you ended, or give more towards the way the tv show season ended? that ending changed a lot of things so now i am really curious to see how that will be addressed. Chapter 38-the end
I at first was going to rate this book a 3 star because while I liked it was sometimes to wordy and drug out a little bit. Just a tad BUT I ended up giving it 5 stars because it really stuck with me. How I should hate Joe because he stalked Beck and has done some pretty awful things yet this author made me kind of ship this relationship and like Joe even though he did horrible things.

Again if you haven't finished this book I do tell major spoilers in the posts beyond the spoiler alert. If you haven't finished the book it will be spoiled for you if you read beyond this point

I knew he would kill Peach and the way he does it in the book and in the TV show is so SO different. What isn't different is that it looks like a suicide.

Joe cages Beck and she had me fooled like she did Joe when I thought she was coming around. In the book they laid on opposite sides of the cage reading Dan Brown's The DaVinci Code then she wants him to go in the cage and have sex.I thought she's distracting him and she'll hit him on the head and escape some how...NOPE she has sex with him.That's why I thought she was coming around to Joe and all he had done. He confessed to killing Benji and Peach and she had sex with him.

In the end he killed Beck and I guess he's ready for the next victim. (hide spoiler)]

I thought about this book a lot after I was done and it stuck with me. I was creeped out and yet Joe had won me over and knowing what I know he still had won me. How could an author make me like and feel sorry for a man who clearly needed help. That's an author that needs to be handed out 5 stars just because I felt more then disgust for Joe and for hoping that (view spoiler)[ Beck was the one. (hide spoiler)]
