The Translated works you should read

It is really a great reading. It doesn't talk only about the events of the war but about human nature, emotions and feelings, love, hope, anger, fear... It is so deep.
I never cry reading a book but with this one I have shed some tears.

@ Leslie: I understand your love for the historical fiction. You love to be transported to the another world (a world of past) which is physically impossible but with books easily possible.

I love them (the translated works) to 'expand oneself'(Shirley had used the phrase well). And it can be applied also to the historical fiction.

Hi Jenny, Shalev Meir, Yasmina Khadmat, Abraham B Yeshoshua (very good), Thomas L. Friedman (US author but his book from Beirut to Jerusalem is amazing), Kai Bird.

No, Life and Fate is the only book I have read by Grossman till now.

Thank you Elaine, I've read Meir Shalev and just noticed now that he's a cousin of Zeruyah Shalev! Quite a literary family. I hadn't heard of the others yet and tried to look them up, but couldn't find a Yasmina Khadmat neither here nor via google. Maybe a misspell?

The title of the book is The attack, very haunting book. I don't think I could read my handwriting too well!

Just always check Amazon.co.uk or com for titles. They have the most amazing collection, and of course you can read other people's crits and look at the book too!

I began A Breath of Life last December. And in the midst I had to travel to India. I had read half of the book by then. And I can say that it is a five star book for me.
Few quotes:
1. "I don't know either if dying is sweet. Until now I've only known the death of sleep. I kill myself every night."
2. "My heart is rich and strikes well the hours of my life."
3. "I am an 'actress,' I appear, say what I know then exit the stage."

In fact, I can quote the entire book. Lispector is a unique writer.
