And let me tell you if Mark didn't have his cracking sense of humor, i would have been hitting the snooze button on The Martian. Both pretty basic answers for me, but hey tell it how you see it right?!
The humor, specifically the pop culture references, adds tremendously to the novel. Without it, in my eyes, it would be just a bunch of scientific, techy mumbo jumbo.

I agree Kamas it's definitely the way Mark handles the lows that keep me reading too.

For me the novel is made more believable in part because of the scientific realities in the novel that include the actual Mars landmarks that are mentioned and visited.
Are there things about the novel that don't ring true for you or make it less believable?
What is your impression of Andy’s use of humor in the novel?
We've already talked about this but let’s focus on it.
Would you have enjoyed reading this novel without his madcap type humor?
