Lauren (booklover723) | 18 comments I own 106 in books and out of all of them I stop reading 7 of them because they did not interest me anymore but never have I gone back to read any of them.

PepperP0t sometimes I do. it depends on why I stopped. if I couldn't concentrate (for whatever reason) i'll try again or if someone I trusts recommends it more than once. but if I was bored with the characters, writing or plot. no way. oh so many books and not enuf time.

Reed Bosgoed (ReedBosgoed) | 8 comments If I find enough fault with something that I quit reading it, I never look back. Just like Pat said, life's too short to waste time on bad books.

Toni | 83 comments I can't stop reading a book. I am obsessive when it comes to finishing things, even really bad movies. So I will however start skipping ahead. Skim over pages until I get to pivotal parts and then get to the end. Then I'll make a note that the book was terrible on my handy dandy list ( i read way too many books to remember them all) and I usually archive it, to never be touched again.

Olivia "So many books--so little time."" | 31 comments I've done that once in a blue moon. For example, I did that with The Passage.

I was like that until a book totally disrespected me and continued to get worse until I actually threw it away when I was done. I ha never thrown a book away before.

Toni | 83 comments I am like you Marie. I keep hoping the book will get better. But you're right it usually never does! @Pat, there was 1 book I read that was soooo bad that if I had it as a paperback I would have heaved it. But it was on my Nook so I couldn't do that! Archive!

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) I've been reading Charles Dickens' David Copperfield on and off for a while now.

It's not that I don't like it, but WWII-related books keep making themselves known to me and I love reading about WWII stuff.

Not sure if that really answers your question or not.

J.A. Kenney (jennyakenney) | 85 comments If I paid for a book I will go back 99.9% of the time. Even if it is driving me batty....

But it might take months...or years...

that one was a hardback, but the book was soooooo disrespectful to me. it just wouldn't get better.

Toni | 83 comments Wow, that bad huh?! Hardcovers are expensive too.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

I usually go back and finish, otherwise I feel like I've failed or something. There has only been one book I could never finish and I had to give away, even though I purchased it. Like pat, I felt this book to be insulting to me and I literally had to get it out of my house.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

I normally try to go back after I put it down for a while.... it just sometimes seems better the second go around:)

I truly, truly hated it.

message 15: by Krystal (new)

Krystal (krystallee6363) The only book ive ever read a decent amount of then stopped and wont pick up again was the Celestine Prophecy. I tried so hard but it was impossibly painful. Most other books I'll get back to. I stopped halfway through Dance of Dragons coz a) I kept forgetting where everyone was and b) I didn't want to get to a cliffhanger knowing the next book isn't out yet.

message 16: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t I've tried to read the host a couple of times. I just hated it, then I tried to watch the movie thinking that might peak my interest to try the book again. no that didn't work.

trying to read sookie reminded me life is too short to try to stick with a book that doesn't agree with me.

Sofia (fivesunflowers) | 17 comments Oye. I have given up on a couple of books, the most recent was Life of Pi, which is weird because it is apparently an incredible book and I did find it interesting ... I think I was just distracted with other things. I also gave up on Anna Karenina which I own. I am determined to go back and read both of them - I absolutely hate giving up on books. Hell, I finished 50 Shades of Grey, even bad books deserve a chance!

Joeera | 49 comments I will give any book a try but, if I can't get into I will stop reading it and won't pick it back up because it is not worth for me to do so. I Have to many other books to read

message 19: by G.G. (new)

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 92 comments The chances that I will finish a book I set aside are slim, but not totally impossible.

It depends on the reason I did.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) This year Ive been bad at this. I used to always read one book at a time but now I keep reading several at once. So some I put on hold for awhile, it depends on the reason. Not sure what the better method is.

message 21: by Karen (new)

Karen Whiteandnerdy | 1 comments I don't like reading to many books of the same genre in a row so sometimes I stop reading a book because I've recently read a book with similar themes and then a few months when I've had a bit more variety I'll pick it up again.

message 22: by Tracy (new)

Tracy | 223 comments More often than not I will stop reading a book because it isn't compatible with the mood I am in. Usually I can go back to it and finish.

message 23: by Saul (new)

Saul Witman | 3 comments I'll have ten, twelve books going at any one time in different genres--Roman, medieval, military etc. and pure history, that I'll switch back and forth to as the mood shifts.

I'll abandon a book only if the author has blatantly altered historical and/or technical facts or put dates so far out of whack as to be unbelievable.

I have books in the bathroom, bedroom, den as well as books in the car for when I'm having to wait for one of my daughters to finish school (or after) programs. I carry a messenger bag with at least four to five paper books as well as my Kindle tablet with a couple of hundred titles on it--some places do not allow electronic devices, hence the paper books.
