What are some good books that you all are reading next month? Any suggestions for Octobers read?

message 2: by Londa (new)

Londa (londalocs) | 1526 comments I didn't have any AA Historical Fiction specifically planned for next month, but I am always open to add another book to my list. These might work

Perfect Peace

Or for a horror/spooky theme

The Good House

Fledgling

Oooh Londa I see we have a very similiar taste in books. I have had Perfect Peace holding space in my Kindle for about 8 months now. I'd really love to read it. Fledging sounds good. I was actually thinking about reading her other book Kindred by Octavia E. Butler which has been sitting on my tbr list for way too long. i'd be satified with any of those. Anymore?

Londa (londalocs) | 1526 comments Kindred is one of my favorite books, and Perfect Peace has been on my to-read list for @ 3 years. Time to read it or set it free :D

Hey V, I just checked it out. It has a great plot line and it seems really good based on the synopsis. But I will be honest it's too new for me. And she's a new author. Normally I love new authors and supporting the "struggle" but lately I have been SOOOO disappointed with new authors! Did you read it yet? Is it good?

message 10: by Londa (new)

Londa (londalocs) | 1526 comments I have it on my reading list for the month. Probably start it late next week.

I believe kisha was going to set up the buddy read for Perfect Peace. I should be able to pick up my copy from the library this week. Even though I have read the Bluest Eye, I would be willing to discuss it. It is one of my favorite books, but I don't re-read it often because it is sooo emotionally charged. It's sitting on my shelf waiting if you all should decide to read it :o)

Londa, I just realized that I never put that up. I will be doing that now (perfect peace). And Kerry and R.E I absolutely loved The Bluest Eyes. It's the first Morrison book that I've ever read and it is a great read. I'd be down for that one as well. So I'll put both up!

Londa (londalocs) | 1526 comments I know that October has already been decided, but I want to put in an early bid for November.

Just found out last night (where have I been?!) that a movie has been made based on Twelve Years a Slave. The movie is coming out on Oct 18th. I have had this on my list forever, and now would be a perfect time to read it.

EDITED TO ADD: Twelve Years is non-fiction so I understand if it doesn't meet the group criteria.

Awesome! I'm all over it. And them maybe we can have a movie discussion after? That would be great! I'm in. If you would like to you can post it under buddy reads for novemeber and this can be your baby and you can lead the group discussion! I just read the synopsis and I am excited about that one. (I know I have a peculiar obsession with pre-civil war haha!).

Oh, I have been wanting to read Perfect Peace for awhile now. But I'll see what I'll be able to add to my reading list this month as I'd love to commit to reading Perfect Peace and The Bluest Eye for October! Thanks, Londa, for the 12 Years A Slave suggestion for November! Looked it up and that one sounds amazing too! :)

It would be great if you could join us! Perfect Peace is a page turner. Once you start, it goes VERY quickly. Just starting the discussion https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I have only asked questions through Chapter 3 so far.
