Italia8989 Hello, does anyone have any questions about writing? (Fiction and poetry are preferable.) I am no professional but have a bit of experience with the process of it all. You can ask a specific question or I can give you advice. It can be anything from how to get ideas to who to ask for editing help.

*I realize this is in a specific book section which might make no sense since Harry Potter may seem irrelevant to this topic. However, I figured since it is one of the greatest books I have ever read and has a lot of literary techniques squeezed into the wonderfulness of it all, I would put it in here.

Thanks for reading and I promise to answer all of your questions as quickly as I can. If someone happens to be on here and can answer questions and I have not replied yet, go ahead and be a pal. You can also find this in the Twilight thread.

Magdalena Ganowska I am looking for a pal and someone honest to tell me things about what I wrote. Who can I ask for editing help?

Kailey Hi I would love to start writing but I can't think of an idea to write about and if I do I give up after the first chapter. Some help with getting over that would be great:)

Magdalena Ganowska my writing teacher told me to write only about things I know, so i wrote about my life, my thoughts, my pains and loves....what about you, don't you have something interesting to tell, I'm sure you have

Try asking someone you know who has an aptitude or fascination for the subject you are writing about. Make sure it is someone outside of your family and also not one of your closest friends, but close enough where you can trust them to be honest. Before you ask someone to edit, however, it is good to have a close friend read your work and tell you what they think.

Magdalena Ganowska The problem is i am Polish and have limited choice. Not many poeple know English. That why I am here, I am looking for new friends. I liked you poems btw

Magdalena Ganowska the best story is one that is honest and interesting, if you like the idea, you won't be able to stop writing, right?

Kailey Well I want it to be an adventure/fantasy but I can't think of any good ideas. Do you have any writers block cures?

Wow, I definitely know how you feel. I always try writing certain things but then give up after the first chapter or two because I lose interest. The best advice I can give to you to overcome this obstacle is to write about what you love more than anything in the world. This does not mean to start writing nonfiction, but to take your primary interests and build upon them with characters who can sometimes be more real than the people standing in front of you. Once you get a suitable idea and create something you fall in love with, you will never feel tempted to give it up even when it is hard to write.

I would suggest Google Translate , although it is sometimes inaccurate. Thanks for commenting on my poems. :) So here is my question: Do you want to write in English or in Polish?

Magdalena Ganowska best writer block cure is reading ... it makes you more imaginative

Magdalena Ganowska i write in English only.

Your writing teacher is right. You have to write things you know, but more importantly, you have to write about things that fascinate you. If you write about something you love you will never feel tempted to stop writing. This does not necessarily mean you have to write about yourself; when I find something interesting enough to put into my works I usually have to do research on it since I am not an expert on every topic I write.
Involving me, whenever I have to write certain moods, I pretend I am in my characters' situations. The more feelings you have experienced in real life the easier it is to write them. If you do not know what grief is, you cannot understand how a character feels when someone dies. If you do not know what it is like to be out in the crisp fall air, crunching leaves and laughing with your friends, then you do not know how to write simple joy. The key to writing is to do more than write. Actually get out in the world. A lot of my inner feelings seep into my writing naturally and my work flows with the emotions inside me without me even realizing it. The best advice I can think of is to know what love is like the back of your hand. If you have an idea of what love is, you can write anything.

To be honest, I have never had a bad case of writer's block. But the best way is to step away from the computer right now and go outside. Study a blade of grass. Watch the trees blow in the wind. Feel the air on your face. Experience the simple things in life and something will come to you eventually.

Okay, that makes sense. You probably need to find someone who's first language is English. I am going to assume your first language is Polish (forgive me if I am wrong). If you refuse to write in Polish, try writing in English but with Polish sentence structure. It might be easier to translate inside your head this way. Are you interested in someone on Goodreads looking at your work? If so, I suppose I would be up to it.

Magdalena Ganowska I have already finished my first book and self published but i am starting to feel afraid for it, I know the story is good, I fear for the language...

Do you mean you want someone to translate it for you?

Magdalena Ganowska No, i want some feedback on it, I know some people had bought it but I haven't got any feedback yet

Italia8989 Magdalena wrote: "No, i want some feedback on it, I know some people had bought it but I haven't got any feedback yet"

What is it called? To be honest, I do not know one word of Polish, but maybe I could paste it into a translator.

Magdalena Ganowska it is in english...check my profile.

Oh gosh, I am so sorry. You already said that. Okay. :)

Magdalena Ganowska no problem. Have you published any of your work?

Magdalena Ganowska are you from Italy if i may ask?

Italia8989 Magdalena wrote: "no problem. Have you published any of your work?"

Not yet, but I plan to get something professionally published someday. I am kind of a novice when it comes to writing. Is there any way I can get your book for free? And no, I am not from Italy.

Magdalena Ganowska it was for free this weekend and it will be again during this one, so be my guest

Italia8989 Magdalena wrote: "it was for free this weekend and it will be again during this one, so be my guest"

Okay, I will get it this weekend.
