Janez Lukan | 2 comments Hi there. This is perhaps 50 or more years old book about utopian society on the other planet. I read it about 30 years ago, so I might have details spoiled, or mixed from other books, but let me try to summarize what I remember.

I think there was a airplane pilot cropping the fields, or something like that. While flying, he felt asleep. Then he waked up on another planet. There was this utopian society, where children at age 7 or something, went to trip around their world.

They were having conveyors there, something like mag-lev trains.

I think that each individual on that planet had at least 2 jobs, working each for 2 hours. One was physical work (like growing fruits or vegetables), the other more artistic (playing piano, painting,...).

This pilots plane is broken, I think, and he must repair it to return back to Earth. He stays on that planet (or is it Earth in the future?) for a longer period (like a year or two).

Society on that planet is also very ecologically oriented.

That's what I can remember. Thanks everyone for reading, and helping if you can.

Daphne | 247 comments This sounds a little like Venus Plus X, by Theodore Sturgeon -- the main character is a pilot (although I think military?) who wakes up in utopia and they do have these antigrav surfaces. It also reminds me of Marge Piercy's Woman On the Edge of Time, which I think has the "kids go walkabout".

Andy | 2124 comments Just checked some online summaries - the main character of "Venus Plus X" is a pilot.

Janez Lukan | 2 comments Thank you both for helping. I got some help from local librarian, and am almost positive it's "The other side of the Universe" by Kurt Dreifuss. Will update if it is, after I read more than 10 pages.

"Utopia. Little government, no cities, free association, and equal income. Everyone is expected to be productive." is one online description.
