I hope you and Ed are ok in Denver with the flooding in your area. Thinking of you! This weather in 2013 is crazy in the variability and intensity of storms. The weather here is now more fall-like.

Melodie (melodieco) | 3679 comments In the 35+ years we've lived here I've never seen it rain like it did the past 3 days! And when we do get very heavy rain it's in the spring, not almost fall! We are lucky that our housing area is on pretty high ground, but areas very near us had spillways, drainage ditches and creeks overflowing like crazy. Lots of impassable roads due to high, rushing water and the area where my office used to be had flooding and a portion of roadway washed out. Getting around town anywhere was difficult, but we got off easy compared to Boulder and up north of town. Many communities without sewage or fresh water, if they're lucky enough not to have their homes flooded out and in some cases washed away. Not something I thought I'd see in Colorado, even though we did have the Big Thompson flood back in the '70s that killed a lot of people. Just over 200 people currently missing. And it's supposed to rain again starting late this afternoon!

Ann (annrumsey) | 16982 comments Melodie: I am glad for your higher ground and know how the contemplation of more rain on top of this type of devastation can feel for your city. Stay safe and I hope the missing are found safe. What a truly Horrible situation and so frighteningly random, I am hearing the term that is was a 'One hundred year flood' way too often lately.

Brakedrum | 1203 comments We finally had some rain in NE Texas. We received almost 2 inches yesterday, after over 100 days with no rain. We really needed it for our lawns and resevoirs.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16982 comments And then you sent that rain our way Lorraine! Glad you got some much needed moisture.
I wish it was better distributed around the country.
Melodie: hope the clean-up and recovery has good momentum in your area. It takes an incredibly long time.

Glad some of the other places in need of rain are getting some!

The cleanup continues here in CO. The damage in some places is just astounding. I read the other day that town of Lyons, up by Boulder, which was particularly hard hit is going to have a very long recovery. Some estimates are saying it could be 6 months to a year before some services can be back to where they need to be.

Shomeret | 1493 comments Yes, we got some rain here in the Bay Area today. It was a very gentle rain without wind. It was fine to walk in. I walked from the bus to the African American Library and Museum which I toured with an American Library Association group. It's a fascinating place in my city and I'd never been there before.
