The series is set in New Orleans which always interests me. I grew up there and still live in Louisiana.
Grave WitchGrave MemoryGrave Memory I am ADDICTED to this series... the otherworlders are fae, death, & witches. the location is new. great new look on an ever expanding genres
I just read the Hearts of the Fallen series (the second book just came out) I loved it. It's about fallen angels. In most fallen angel series they didn't fall due to anything bad (usually they loved a woman) but in this one they not only fell but then were high lords in hell. They are now assassins for the angels. These guys are total messes w/lot's of issues & this writer does one of the best "totured hero" storylines I've read.
Another newer series I love is Vamp City. The second one just came out a few months ago. It's dark and gritty but I loved it. Really well written I thought.

I love it too, although the second book seemed to have a slightly different tone to it.
@Lisarenee....I agree it had a different tone. She eased up on the "dark & gritty" level too. I know she got hit w/out of negative feedback on how dark the first one was. That was part of what I liked the best so I hope she doesn't go too far "into the light".
I'v recently read Laurann Dohner New species. It got really mix review but I like the blurb and thought give it a go. Absolutely love it. Their big books with about 10 in series so their expensive if uv just found them and like me couldn't wait and bought all them together. Worth every penny and front covers are drool worthy. Lol.
I think the Jessica Cain series by Amanda Carlson just started last year with the third book due out in October. I'm a fan of Seanan McGuire, Kevin Hearne, Kelley Armstrong and this isn't quite up to those standards (for me personally), but she's painted an interesting picture and I'm willing to see where it goes. :)

For instance, I just finished
Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson. It's got super villains taking over the planet one city at a time. 'Epics' were created over night when normal people were transformed by some strange and unknown phenomena. As the bad guys come into their powers they start taking over the planet because no one can stop them. They question many raise is are all epics bad? From the evidence around the planet it would appear so, and one boy is on a mission to find a way to avenge his father's murder and fight back.
If anyone is interested, Amazon is letting people download the first 5 chapters so they can get a feel for it:

I got an ARC at BEA and I really loved it. Granted, I was a Marvel comics fan when I was younger so that could play a part in my love of it. I was squeeing and smiling like a 12 year old. lol Oh, and this one is a YA although the main character is 18.
