Stumbled across this site today. Has free audiobooks and short stories. No idea what the quality is like.

I have listened to several books from there. The older recordings are hit and miss, but most newer ones have very good production quality. When you search for a title check the different versions to see what you might like best.

Also most books can be downloaded as .m4b files (audiobook) or as podcasts which is super nice on the iPhone in their podcast app.

The reading quality varies from excellent to poor. One thing to watch out for, some books have different readers for different chapters. As a crowd-sourced effort, it should get better over time, like Wikipedia, if there is enough participation.

Since the books are free, give them a try. If you don't enjoy the reading, just delete the files.

I have listened to quite a few audio books from Librivox. One I would recommend is the full cast recording of Dracula. The first couple of chapters have a character with an odd voice, but it gets much better after that.
