It was really feeling like Mr. Lynch was writing himself into a corner, when real pirates show up.
Not to mention the captain and her Lt. both look to be interesting characters. The first book was severely lacking in woman, and that's one improvement this book seems to be making.

So Locke stupidly leads a boarding party and ends up conning everyone into thinking he's a badass by getting lucky and killing four crazy zealots.
This book finally has its hooks in me.

I'm liking this book so much more than the previous one! It's not all going to plan, and even his improvisations aren't really working all the time so it's a lot more fun to read this and find out what happens next. The real fun started the moment they were training for pirate life, and took to the sea. And than obviously the moment the pirates captured them, the real fun really started.
I liked Locke going berserk a bit there, and it looks like his friendship with Jean is under some heavy pressure.
Like Rob said i'm hooked now. Locke was hilarious in the charge. Very interested to see how the rest of the book unfolds with Locke and Jean differing on how to proceed.
Oops. Must have been a copy/paste issue..I'm assuming that's supposed to be peril and updated it accordingly.
