Things are finally starting to pick up. While I could stand to participate a little less in the sailing lessons, I enjoyed reading about them learning.
The near poisoning is intriguing. They sure know how to make enemies apparently.

Grr. My post got lost. Short version: go!
Cat thing is interesting. I wonder if that's made up or based in fact.
Their safety net is gone now that Caldris is dead. Locke should have remembered the cats! I wonder if someone killed him or if he just worked himself to death. Seems awfully suspicious.
After setting up the Bastards by killing the prison guards, I really think Merrain's secret employers are the same ones that have been trying to kill them.

first the play on traditional superstitions. women on board, and cats bring luck. i like that.
i've also started to really like merrain, it's a shame she didn't go with the red messenger. that could have been fun!
what also struck me: remember the prologue with 'Jerome' turning on Locke? it really could be a ploy. when visiting Requin, Locke makes it really clear that Jerome isn't in on all of this and that he is really betraying Jerome.
so i still have my money on it being all part of the plan

I also enjoyed Caldris and although I really like the twist with his death, so that Locke and Jean are on their own with a bunch full of sailors and no cats, I'm going to miss him.
I enjoyed the way he told of the strange things he saw at sea. Especially the bit about the underwater city sounded interesting and spoke to my sense of wonder.
