Discuss chapter three

Jennie Palermo (jenniepalermo) | 7 comments So something I found interesting about this chapter was the way the Dursleys changed their behavior as soon as something threatened their "happy" little family. If Harry didn't have that little glimpse of freedom in the form of a letter, they never would have given him a real room (although that was mostly because they thought Dumbledore was spying on them) or make Dudley actually do some chores around the house.

I have to admit I haven't gotten to this part yet (I'm going really slow!), but it's a good topic you've brought up. The Dursleys are all about appearances. It's in the first sentence of the book, "Mr. And Mrs. Dursley... We're proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much." The idea that these wizard freaks could see how they were treating Harry and god forbid show up on their doorstep in their weird clothing to do something about it must have been terrifying for them.
