Sarah (saraworld02) | 4 comments There was a mystery series of at least 3 books I read when I was about 10, so published 1994 or earlier, but probably not before the 1970s. I think it was British. One of the books had the main characters in a huge mansion where they discover a secret passage, and another had something to do with a witch ball (those shiny balls on pedestals in yards). There may have been supernatural elements, or else just events believed to be supernatural that were eventually explained by normal events.

or

Five Go Adventuring Again Five Go Adventuring Again (Famous Five, #2) by Enid Blyton . This one has more than 3 books in the series.

Do you remember anything about the main character(s)? Boy or girl?

Was the book set in Britain, or was the author British or both?

Anything about the cover?

Sarah (saraworld02) | 4 comments It's not either of those. I'm not completely sure the series was set in Great Britain, but I'm pretty sure it was, because the house was really old, and the secret passage may have been a priest's hole. I have no idea about the author. I feel like the cover style was a similar style to the Famous Five cover above, in that they were pretty realistic-looking - definitely not cartoons. I think there were two or three kids - one may have been a girl, but I'm leaning toward the others or maybe all of them being boys. Also, there was something about a yew tree or hedge in the garden in one of the books. This might not have been important to the plot, but I remember it because I'd never heard of one before. Also, I really feel that there may have been a ghost - whether "real" or imaginary - in one of the books.

Sarah (saraworld02) | 4 comments I'm pretty sure this is it: The Children of Green Knowe Collection. I will know for sure after I get them from the library.

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Sarah, you can see some of the covers for the Green Knowe series here

The one you remember may be on there.

Sarah (saraworld02) | 4 comments The one with the boy and all the birds is the one I had! Thank you everybody. Obviously, I was wrong about the books not being published before 1970.
