Characters-Eden-24 years old-dark hair-nanny and orphan, Luke-34 years old-dark hair-wealthy, Ray (I think) Luke's younger brother, Marlee-Eden's best friend and Ray's new wife at the beginning, Paula-Eden's employer, Jeff-Eden's ex-fiancee.

Setting-I think Australia

Published-1990s

Plot-The book starts at Ray and Marlee's wedding, Marlee is the ex-nanny to Ray and Luke's sister's children. Eden is Marlee's best friend and the main character, and the two grew up together as orphans in a children's home. She meets Luke, Ray's brother before the wedding and dislikes him instantly. Just before the wedding, she receives a call from Jeff, her fiance, that he's dumping her for the daughter of his boss. She is maid of honour at the wedding, holds it together during the ceremony, but falls apart at the reception, but Luke, the best man, manages to cover for her, and they have a passionate night together.
Eden wakes up and after snubbing a date with Luke, leaves, is cold-shouldered by Luke's sister, and goes back to her residence as a live-in nanny for Paula and family. Luke doesn't give in so easily, and starts pursuing her, they start dating, and eventually after a confrontation with Paula, she quits and moves in with Luke.
Luke however demands that Eden not get pregnant, and Eden can't understand why he does not maintain contact with his son from his first marriage. She does accidentally fall pregnant, and waits a while to tell him to prepare herself financially. They have an ugly scene, and she moves out to an apartment in the poor side of town. She makes friends with her artsy/creative young female neighbour, can't remember her name.
In the meantime, Luke feels terrible, and takes Marlee house-hunting to buy Eden the kind of house she always wanted to raise children in, a big house, with a sprawling garden, and tries to convince her to take him back. He tracks her down on a bus, and tries to persuade her, but she rejects him. Marlee talks to her and tells her to listen to his side of the story. She invites him over, and he tells her his first wife tricked him into marrying her while pregnant, but when she gave birth to the baby, her former boyfriend, and the real father of the baby sued for custody, and that's why he is anti-children, as he found it too painful the last time.
Last chapter-2 years later, Eden and Luke's son David is 2 years old, Marlee and Ray have a daughter, her neighbour has a boyfriend and they are all coming round for a barbecue.

Book Cover-purple, with a man and woman, I think the man is comforting or re-assuring the woman.
