(view spoiler)[I dont like what they're doing with Tess and attempting to change her relationship with Day. Also it bothers me so much that they're 15 and there is so much instant romance, already saying "I love you" when like June pointed out it's only been a couple weeks.

Also didn't see coming the Metias/Thomas thing! I thought Thomas was into June. This actually makes him a bit more interesting if he was not acting out of jealousy but was actually trying to protect her this whole time. I usually find 2nd books less exciting but this one is actually more interesting? But I also thought the first was just okay, so that might be why.

I'm puzzled that we never got an answer as to what June's sickness was, if it was just a normal sickness why was it such a big part of the plot? Was it just a device to add tension/make their escape harder? IDK it still bothers me.

I also like that the Colonies is pretty much just a country ran by corporations and it's equally messed up. I wonder if they'll just focus on fixing the Republic then, rather than bringing back the United States.

Not a huge fan of the ending because we all know it's going to be all right in the end, but still a pretty interesting book. I think I liked it more than the first one for sure. (hide spoiler)]

I agree! I hate how they're trying to change it! I also hate how they're 15... It's all so wrong. Definitely not loving this as much on re-read and I have the pretty Fairyloot editions. If I keep on feeling the same way about the future ones I'll unhaul

I liked Anden too, I had trouble trusting him but he seemed genuinely nice and he seems more fitting for June.

Some of these chapters are really long, but I like the change of scenery between the Day and June chapters. I actually feel kind of bad for Anden - he hasn’t done anything wrong, yet the entire country already hates him 🥴 I’m definitely already over Day’s insecurity over June oop. Tess annoys the fuck out of me, and I definitely hope she doesn’t end up with Day argh!!!

The lie detector test was intense, but cool. Her kiss with Anden was truly out of nowhere wtf, they know each other for like an hour???? What's with these people and loving each other within seconds of meeting each other? Still don’t trust Razor, I’m glad June won’t kill the Elector, although it’s a quick 180 in personality once again. The patriots are hiding something and I think they might not be as good as they seem to be. I’m still wondering why no one is questioning how June knew about the planned assasination of the Elector but okay. (hide spoiler)]
