They just have different views of looking at a problem, just because they've lived life differently. Day doesn't care about the Republic and is almost eager to let Colonies rule, but June was a Republic Prodigy, plus she is sure that Anden can actually change things for the better. They both want a secure future, but in different ways. And all that about Tess and Anden closeness and rich and poor factor were just jealous factors that led to more differences.
