Christopher Pepper | 12 comments In an attempt to get a print run of The Outrider Legion completed and placed into the hands of readers, I figured I'd try and give this newfangled Kickstarter a go. All the kids down at the malt shop say it's the bees knees, apparently.

Felt a little strange going the public route for this, but looking at other projects on Kickstarter I'm certainly not the only one. Has anyone else used Kickstarter for an aspect of your writing/publishing? If so, was it successful/fun/worth it?

your link doesn't work.

I thought about doing a kickstarter, but since I don't have much of a readership, I don't think it'd do much good. but I can't fault anyone for trying.

edit: sorry about that other post, I've got too many windows open trying to do too much at once!

Christopher Pepper | 12 comments Whoops. Link should be whole now. Thanks for the input though. My readership is kind of small too but I figured "What the hell?", ya know?

I read through your kickstarter and I wish you the best of luck! It seems pretty interesting and you should be able to find some people.

Patricia Eddy (patricia_eddy) | 32 comments I did an IndieGoGo for my first book. the benefit of IndieGoGo rather than Kickstarter is that with IndieGoGo, you get all of the funds raised even if you don't make your goal.

I raised about $1100 of the $1600 I was asking for. It paid for most of my editing costs. I haven't done it again for the next two books, because I think that I exhausted my friends and I don't have a large enough readership yet to warrant doing it again.

But I will definitely do it for the next series (assuming this current series starts to get me more fans).

Good luck! I backed.

Christopher Pepper | 12 comments Thanks for backing! IndeGoGo almost sounds like a better option now that you mention it. But like I said, this is more a shot in the dark kind of thing than anything else. I'm still writing if it succeeds or fails!

A.C. Kavich (ackavich) While there certainly are costs associated with getting a book ready for a publishing run, I think most readers have the perception that "writing is free". It's just a writer and a keyboard, right?

Unfortunately, that perception is likely to prevent would-be donors from giving money to a writing project as opposed to a film project.

Baine Kelly (BaineKelly) | 40 comments I've been considering the same. My fan base is rather small, but since I put most of what I had saved into the novella we published in May, I was hoping that by doing a kickstarter campaign I could raise the funds to get more marketing and the first print run to increase the fan base. I'll have to take a look at IndeGoGo and see what it is like. Good Luek Christopher, I'll have to check out your Kickstarter.
