Peter Good or bad?

I know there are some people who think that it would be interesting if Peter and Tris were a couple.(Just for the record if that ever happened I think I might die. Four and Tris are meant for each other! <3 Anyways I just don't get Peter especially when (view spoiler)[ he tells Tris that since she saved his life he owed her one, one minute I think he is about to turn to the good side then he's bad again (hide spoiler)] I thought it would be cool to have a discussion on Peter since he is such an unpredictable character. You don't have to say whether you think he is good or bad,you can say whatever you want about him.

Peter is very complex and interesting. For sure he is kind of psychologically screwed up and is a creep, but beneath that all, I think in his twisted ways, he is trying to show that he actually kinda likes Tris and feels bad for what he made her endure during Divergent.

he is a bad person and his view on oweing people is just plain weird but i kinda feel obligated to like him because of what he does for tris in insurgent.

I think Peter is complicated. His drive and need to be the best at everything and the lengths he is willing to go to to ensure he is best is disturbing. Yet, his honor code about repaying Tris for saving him makes him not worst character in the story. I think he respects Tris, but would never date her because I think he needs to be best in any relationship in his life and with Tris he is not.

Peter and Tris in a relationship? What sort of Wahoos would come up with that? He's not a bad guy, but he's also not a very nice one. As you all said, Peter is a complicated fella. The way I see it, Peter is like a merc just working for the highest bidder. Obviously I don't mean in the literal sense, but he doesn't seem to have any sort of distinct side to morally get behind. He could be trying to killing you one moment, and save you the next. Which is what happened.

Honesty, Peter has always creeped me out. But I think you are totally right about Peter having to always having to be the best in any relationship he's in.

I disagree,though Peter is VERY complicated..he is a misunderstood Character and I think that Peter has a crush on Tris because He kept
on Calling Her stiff and when He told Her in Insurgent that Tobias
is 18 and that He (Four) would find a New Girlfriend.. I went :0

Good or bad he is certainly selfish. I think he does whatever will serve him best. He is self preserving and can be loyal to a fault. But like any dog, if you feed it that is where it's loyalty will lie. It can also of course bite you. I don't like him. I don't trust him and I think of all the characters that are neither good nor bad I find him to be the most interesting. I kind of feel the same way about Ed. In Allegiant I hope they get to battle it out. Just because part of me is a sadist when it comes to novels. LOLOLOLOLOL

I also think Peter is complicated and misunderstood. I don't think he likes Tris, but somewhere beneath his cruelty and cowardice he has a certain degree of compassion and bravery he rarely ever shows. He tries to make sure he doesn't show these two traits, but he sometimes lets them slip.

I love peter. I think he was one of the main reasons tris did so well in initiation. He motivated her. And in Insurgent, everything he did just melted my heart. Plus, he was hilarious in the movie!

The eye patch makes evil but he does save Tris twice and the people who stabs him are meanie poo poos. But he was on Evelyn's side for part of the storyline

Peter was always one of the bad guys. Saving Tris twice was just to get even, he didn't do it because he cared. *spoiler* after he decided to 'reset' himself with the memory serum you can see that he regrets everything that he had done. That part made me feel sorry for him and I'm glad Peter's fate was good.

yeah, at the end of allegiant i felt a lot of sympathy towards peter, because he knew what he had done wrong and he just wanted to restart his life. but i don't think peter nearly killed any of his family?

It says in the book, (roughly) "Nobody is good or bad but a mix of both," and I think Peter is a good example of that. Obviously anybody who would stab someone in the eye or possibly kill someone because they beat them has to be quite bad, but I think Peter has more to him than complete badness.

Even though Peter helped Tris out in Insurgent, it doesn't make him a good person. He only did it for himself, so he wouldn't be in debt to a dead person forever. He is absolutely evil, especially in the first book. Let's not forget he tried to kill her guys......

Just to really let you know how much I hate him, I made a stress ball, drew a face on it, and called it peter. I made my friend make her stress ball Eric because I REALLY wanted to squeeze the life out of Peter. Okay, that is an over statement, I feel kind of bad for him... But you can never forgive someone that easily after they tried to kill you. Even someone like Al....

um... bad. lol. He is a selfish person and he is a coward. I do feel a little bit bad for him, but still. Im glad he (view spoiler)[ took the serum (hide spoiler)] because there was no other way for him. So yeah...i guess bad but maybe a little bit of both?
