SOLVED. Historical, poss. romance, set in American West. Coal is really black snow [s]

For months now I have been thinking of a book or novella in a Christmas anthology I read a long time ago. It is an historical set in the American west. It is maybe from a romance series. It is about a mother who is pregnant. The father is a miner and alcoholic. He dies very quickly. There is a little boy and I think a little girl. It is winter and the little boy goes to the coal mine and brings back coal, but it is really black snow. He is caught and the family moves in with the owner of the mine as his servants. Christmas comes and Santa pays a visit, but the mother tells the little boy he will get nothing because he has been mean.
Its true, he gets nothing, but everyone is surprised because mother was just teasing. Sorry to be so verbose, but I really want to read this cute story again. Please help.

Oh, do you remember the name of the anthology? Or the name of the story and the author? That way we can try to shelve it.

It is an Amy Elizabeth Saunders story called "Angels We Have Heard". It is from Mistletoe Magic 2006. It is a great little story and a keeper for me now that i found it again.
