The current record for the hardcover edition of Karl Marx: A Nineteenth-Century Life by Jonathan Sperber (ISBN 9780871404671) lists it at 512 pages. By my count, the correct pagination is:

- 13 unnumbered pages at the beginning, including the free end-paper, title / author / publication info pages, dedication, Table of Contents.
- 10 pages for the introduction numbered Roman numerals xii through xx (excepting the unnumbered first page of the intro, which is unnumbered).
- The body of the book spans Arabic numerals 1-560 (with occasional unnumbered pages at the beginning of each section).
- Pages 561 through 648 are the Acknowledgements / Source Collections / Notes / Bibliography / Index.
- 6 unnumbered pages at the end, beginning with the one-page About the Author section through the free end-papers.

Total pagination = 677

Number of pages included in numbered span (the 20 pages implied by the last Roman numeraled page + the 648 pages in the Arabic numeraled section) = 668

Thanks!

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments I've updated the page count to 648. Introductory material, while important, can't be counted unless it's numbered in the same sequence as the main content.
