I'm still loving this but I preferred it when the plot was taking place within the castle confines. Celeana's time with Rowan is making for interesting reading and I'm loving seeing her grow in abilities. Celeana's cousin is an... interesting character and I'm not sure I trust his motives, yet. Dorian's with Sorscha and I believe Celeana and Rowan are developing a relationship, too. It was far simpler in the first two book and as much as I am enjoying this one, I preferred it when Dorian, Chaol, and Celeana were all together. The pace also seems a little slower, here. (hide spoiler)]

4/4 of Heir of Fire: (view spoiler)[Celeana's childhood is horrific. I'm so glad the reader got to find out more details about her background, but it is making for such sorrowful reading.

The ending was amazing, I only wish the entire thing had maintained the same pace as the last 100 pages. I found this a little too slow and confusing, in some earlier sections. (hide spoiler)]

The Assassin and the Pirate Lord. First story of The Assassin's Blade: (view spoiler)[I love how this shows the softer side of Celeana's character. This facet of her personality is slower to appear, in the main series, so it was pleasant to see her portrayed as such, here. We still got enough sass and brattiness that makes her such an unforgettable character, but here we also get to see her empathy for the suffering of others.

I also loved how the reader was invited to learn more of Sam's character, and his blossoming relationship with Celeana was painfully sweet, given how it ends in the main series. (hide spoiler)]

The Assassin and the Healer. Second story of The Assassin's Blade: (view spoiler)[This is by far the shortest tale in the collection but no less exciting for it. I am a little bias with my love for this as I feel like awarding this series 5 stars whenever I read of Celeana's love for books, which it does early on. I do, however, also appreciate how this follows from the events in the last tale. I'm hoping this will lead us chronologically (rather than just random tales plucked from different times in her life) to how Celana ended up in the salt mines, which is were Throne of Glass opens.

This is a split perspective tale, which is interesting as the other character is one who doesn't appear in the main series... at least as far as I am aware. It does provide a new insight to Celeana's character, that comes from outside of herself, but also doesn't really add to much to my understanding despite the enjoyable nature of the piece. This differed from the previous two as I felt this had some bearing on the central series and has added to my understanding of the infamous protagonist. I was completely fooled by the events that unfolded and fell in love with Celeana's character all over again at the ending. (hide spoiler)]

Sam, however, was shown as a truly compassionate and good-natured soul. I adore their interactions and seeing their alternative personalities collide. (hide spoiler)]

22%: (view spoiler)[This book definitely started off slow for me..or maybe it's just cause I was in a mood and the mood just didn't want me to get past the first page for a couple of days. But then Maddison motivated me to stick with it...and so I definitely turned the page and starting getting into Empire of Storms.

Now so far I've re-met Aelin, Rowan, Dorian, and Manon. I still really like Aelin's relationship with Rowan and I thought it was kind of sweet when Rowan and Dorian talked about it. I think in a way it kind of made Dorian okay with their relationship, because they found a way to bring each other out of the darkness, and that makes it seem that Dorian will be able to find that person someday. Who knows when or who that will be but I definitely believe that it will happen.

Manon is still a bad ass and I definitely missed Abraxos. I have a feeling that she might be a love interest for Dorian..but I'm not 100% sure. I did love their encounter though! How she saved his life was cute.

Speaking of Dorian, his chapters are a little dark and I've definitely been on a kick for dark books...so I love reading them. I do hope that he changes drastically throughout this book and somehow he can become the same Dorian from the first book!?!? Maybe?!?

Other than that, I think the other characters are interesting. Like, Erawan, Lysandra, Aedion, etc.

Well shit... if that doesn't scream "Don't fuck with me." I don't know what does. Manon is scary as fuck. A god damn bad ass. And hot freaking damn! She attacked her evil grandmother?!!?! THE FUCK MANON! God, she is my hero and it sucks that her grandmother is still alive. I hate that bitch.

Besides Manon being a complete and total bad ass...my girl Aelin has definitely stepped up her game. When she met up with Rowan and Dorian, without their knowledge, and was sitting in Rolfe's office (aka Pirate King) I was so freaking proud of her. God I missed her sassy ass. The whole time she was playing with Rolfe and then when he found out that she was the Queen... man I laughed a little. I think I fell even more in love with her character. And seeing how Rowan loved her too was just the cherry on top.

I wonder what else is going to happen. I'm so giddy. I need to know! (hide spoiler)]

Okay, so much has freaking happened! So many chapters and so much information has been thrown at me.

Manon has been hurt and she's now healing and sleeping and healing and sleeping. She mentioned that Elide Lochan is looking for the Queen Aelin. But she can't stay awake to even know what people are asking her, what they are saying, or literally anything at all. Home girl needs to sleep and heal so that she can become her normal bad ass self again and hopefully that will happen soon than later.

Then she woke up and was healing very nicely. Although she is sort of a prisoner of Aelin's now.. so I wonder how that's going to play out. If it at all will change and Manon will gain Aelin's trust again or if she will stay a prisoner... Also hearing about how her parents wanted her to be a child of peace before they died and how her grandmother actually made her a child of war was pretty interesting. No wonder I hate her grandmother.

Side Note: Aelin and Rowan do it a lot. Like a lot. Go them.



Other than that I'm really happy where they are relationship wise. Although I don't like how so many people are after Aelin. Although she does kind of deserve Lochan going after her. I mean that note left for him was fucking savage of her.

I kind of feel bad for Rowan and Aedion because Aelin really keeps them out of the loop a lot. I'm glad that she has a new allie Ansel, which I know rubs some people the wrong way, but it doesn't really matter because they needed people to help win the war. The war meaning evil Maeve is coming after Aelin which is definitely going to be a bad ass battle.

Rowan and Aelin are getting even closer and I feel like I read some hints about Manon and Dorian getting closer... but I could be wrong.

And then Maeve is coming towards them at the end?!?! AHH between Maeve and Erawan I have no idea who the best villain is in this book. I'm so confused. I wonder what's going to happen.

I also feel like I probably haven't mentioned a few important parts but I'm dealing with a potential food coma and reading at a snails pace right now.

Aelin is so freaking smart and I feel so bad for all of her companions. She literally planned for all of them to live and have power throughout this war while she had none. She knew someone was against her in the group and that is why she kept so many of her plans hidden. She knew that her time was short lived and that's why she married Rowan and made sure her kingdom had someone to look after it.

I feel so bad for Rowan because he didn't know jack shit was happening and he found out his wife was taken hostage by Queen Maeve. I already miss Aelin and I hope nothing happens to her and I have no idea if I can read the next book because I'm completely and utterly sad.

HOW CAN I MOVE ON?!?!

I hope they come up with a super awesome plan and save her because she freaking deserves it. Even when people were doubting the fuck out of her and her plans she proved them wrong and took their words silently without giving away anything. I love Aelin and she better not fucking
die or I will never read this series ever again.

It has only been a week since I've read Empire of Storms and I can't believe how much I've missed all of these characters.



YAY! Chaol is back - because he really wasn't in Empire of Storms, just briefly mentioned. I feel bad for him because of everything he has gone through and what is coming for him but I'm pretty sure he can handle anything thrown at him. I also have a feeling there's going to be some romantical feelings between him and Yrene and I'm 100% down with that relationship. I mean Aelin has moved on with Rowan and I'm sure Dorian has someone somewhere eventually.



Speaking Yrene, finally she's freaking mentioned. I honestly don't remember if she was mentioned in Empire of Storms but I do remember reading the novella with her. Either way it's been a long time since she's been mentioned.



I can't wait to find out what's going to happen in this book? anything exciting? also did I mention how much I love Chaol being called Lord Westfall?

I will also probably bring up stuff that I should've or did mention in my previous comments. Again, I blacked out -- completely fucking spaced on what I just heard.

So Yrene I believe goes on her own mission - I don't remember where or why she left - but Chaol summoned her back and then felt like a douche bag for doing it. I think he thought she was going to be in trouble or danger and that's why he brought her back .. but again I sort of blacked out and got a bunch of phone calls and now I'm farther into the book and have no idea what I just listened to. I think I need more coffee because I'm not awake.

Also, can I mentioned how freaking cute Yrene and Chaol are. And when Aelin was mentioned it was a really sweet moment. I know Aelin and Chaol loved each other once and will always be fond of each other but she has moved on with Rowan and Chaol has moved on with Yrene. They are better with those people than they were together. I love that. Now I'm just waiting for Dorian to get some loving.

Pretty sure it was mentioned somewhere that he was dealing with his inner demons. Like how he constantly left Dorian when he was fighting his dad and his inner demon - literally. But I could be wrong. In the end, Dorian and Aelin will probably forgive him for all of that nonsense because I'm sure they already did.

Other than that I like how he doesn't keep secrets from Yrene. They talk and I love that because they seem like the only normal couple right now in this book.

Red Queen is a good series too. I think Glass Sword is still my fav in the series because the MC is super dark in that one kind of like Katherine from One Dark Throne
