I also remember the cover was a dark blue/ green mix (Like Ocean water when you go down below the surface for a little bit) and it may have included the word 'deep' in the title. And it was under fantasy or fiction i believe. That's all i remember.

The book was Sea Change
A girl goes to this island for the summer to meet up with her mother who's already there to help the mom get the grandmas? (i think) house ready for an estate sale. While there she meets a mysterious boy and after reading a book that mentions this group of people she suspects he might be one (i think it was like a half human- half mermaid mix). I also remember that she tries to test her theory by getting him to swim in the ocean with her but he doesn't want to and he ends up having to save her after she jumps in anyway and gets sucked out by a riptide. Before she passes out and almost drowns, she believes she sees him saving her, but in a mermaid form. (They were in a cove that he liked to hang out in when she jumped in the water). I also remember that a previous relationship she had had ended when the guy got mad that she never took off her socks because she hated the way her toes looked because she had had surgery on them as a baby to remove webbing-like skin from between them.
I don't know if this will help, but i hope so.
