1066 and all that
question
Is This Out of Date Now?

For instance how many people know about the White Ship now? There are a lot of memorable bits like Waves of Egg Kings, Pretenders, Pitts, etc. though.
I suppose you can add some more: Waves of Nazi Sympathisers and Millibands. Not to mention the Vulnerable Bead.

A very late contribution (which is, of course, a Bad Thing), perhaps more applicable to subsequent readers of this thread: I struggled to relate to some of the book, especially that which parodies monarchy in the post-Plantagenet period, as I haven't read much on such topics yet.
I'd say that the book is rewarding but only in proportion to your knowledge of British history. If you approach the book without any understanding of Britain's key historical figures and events, you'll derive next-to-nothing from the book.

Of course not! Fukuyama has confirmed its statement that "History is at an end. This history is therefore final."
It's not out of date. But you need a working knowledge of British history to.understand the humor...
It's not really out of date - and anyone who has read Sharon Penman's novel When Christ and his Saints Slept, or any history around the period of King Stephen and Empress Matilda, will know about the White Ship. But then, I'm Wrong but Wromantic....
And anyone who watched Blackadder III will remember the Pitts.
It's utterly timeless. But its humor depends on your knowledge of history.
