FALL 2013 READING CHALLENGE

1. Sept. 21st is International Day of Peace- so this fall
read a book SET AT LEAST IN PART DURING A WAR.
The Book Thief
3. October 31st is Halloween- so this fall
read a book that features A CHARACTER THAT WOULD BLEND IN AT A HALLOWEEN PARTY.
The Fury and Dark Reunion
5. October is World Blindness Awareness Month and Down Syndrome Awareness Month- so this fall
read a book that FEATURES A CHARACTER WITH A DISABILITY
The Fault in Our Stars
7. Random task- this task counts toward the challenge but is not inspired by the season- so this fall
READ A BOOK LESS THAN 200 PAGES
The Last Thirteen Book 1: 13
and I'll do
READ A BOOK OF SHORT STORIES
Naughty Stories For Good Boys And Girls

I kind of cheated a little bit because I was reading it before the challenge started but since the book is about 1000 pages long, I don't feel too bad about that. I think Ken Follett is a great storyteller and he does an amazing job with historical fiction.

if you still have problems signing up, you can just continue to make your updates in this thread.
someone else in the group may be better with computers and offer more helpful advice but in the meantime I consider you part of the fall challenge-so welcome :)

I have been obsessed with a particular book that I am reading to meet the task of a character obsessed with a particular book. Found this at the library.
The Book of Mormon Girl: Stories from an American Faith
Christine might enjoy this since she lives in Utah. The author is not only obsessed with The Book of Mormon but in chapter four she is obsessed with Marie Osmond's Guide to beauty, health, and style

Into the Dark by R.L. Stine. It features a blind mean character. It is a reread but really easy to read.
I have started reading a couple of short stories of Sherlock Holmes. Because I am reading the stories in chronological order, I have a few more short stories to read and then I will finally get to a full blown novel, which I forgot what it is named. XD

lol i'm sure it is - sexy vampires can do no wrong ;)

thanks for the info Christine!
hope you get your laptop back soon Jenn!

The Vampire Lestat... formerly known as Satan's Night Out freaking ROCKS!!!!!
Here is a music video from The Queen of The Damned movie from Lestat's band... my only complaint with the clip is Lestat's hair isn't blond nor long like it is in the novel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qdfwc8...

Dracula is going to be a series this fall- saw a preview and it looks pretty good."
I did not know that. What network will it be on? I have not yet read the original Dracula novel yet but I plan on doing so soon. I love vampires when they aren't trying to romance a girl in 4 books and sparkles. lol.
Cirque Du Freak by Darren Shan, Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice, Dracula, Angel, Buffy, John Carpeter's Vampires... just to name a few I like
I haven't become much of a vampire fan in any form, but that video was certainly entertaining and a bit twisted - which is kinda what I go for. Thanks.

Are you referring to Twilight. Were there 4 books?

In the book since it was set in the 80's I figure the band was a hair metal band, like Motley Crue, Ratt, and Poison. They might had been more like Metallica maybe. I wonder if Anne Rice has ever had that question, what did the band sound like. I love the music in the movie but then again I LOVE Korn which is who does all the stuff for Lestat in the movie.

I believe it's going to be on nbc. you may not be happy to hear Dracula still holds a torch for his dead wife who has apparently been reincarnated so he loves her from afar
but in the meantime gets revenge on a lot of people he feels did him wrong many years ago.
I think it's set in Victorian england

"

I only read 2 but I think there are 4 in total
I am just not that into vampires. None of this information is interesting to me. I did however like Johnny Depp in Dark Shadows and I liked some of the Scooby Doo episodes that featured vampires so I guess that is something.
I thought Twilight was a trilogy with only 3 books for some reason. I never read any of them but I saw the Breaking Dawn movies because I was working at the movie theater.

I also loved the vampire show forever knight which was on ages ago and will check out this new show to see if it's any good.
fyi dark shadows was also an old tv show- the movie was inspired by the series.
p.s. Scooby doo rocks ;)

it's hard not to like johnny depp ;)
I loved 21 jump street & benny & joon is my fave depp movie

I never watched buffy for some reason-it looked like a fun show.
I didn't watch the tudors but the actor who starred in that is the star of the Dracula tv show
I agree the Dracula movie with gary oldman was very good

I am going to watch Dracula because of Jonathan Rhys Meyers. I didn't see the Tudors either but I have liked other things he's been in.
Buffy was fun.
I am a huge fan of Gary Oldman.
Benny & Joon!!!!!! Now I want to watch that - been a long time!!!!

Not only do I love Johnny Depp, I also love Mary Stuart Masterson. Remember her in Fried Green Tomatoes?
The last Blockbuster Video store in my city is currently liquidating - I'm gonna check if they have Benny & Joon and Fried Green Tomatoes because I absolutely must own these :-)

Sounds intriguing but yeah the wife thing sounds bad for the case of the show.

You should definitely invest in getting some video games as well. lol.

You should watch Buffy/Angel... Atleast seasons 1-3 which were the best. Then after that watch Angel in its entirety, I have to saw angel is Joss Whendon's best show.

Ditto with me. Vampires all started with Buffy for me. I used to watch it with my dad. I haven't read too many vampire books other than ones in the three series I mentioned. I had fan boy crazy when I heard Darren Shan was doing a prequel series to Cirque Du Freak. Which is AMAZING BTW. lol. Darren Shan's vampires are my favorite to read about. I love how he gives vampires a different feel to them.

dracula's love for his wife is part of the draw for me (as well as the fact that the actor playing him is more than a little sexy)
but don't worry there looks to be plenty of bloody revenge to balance things out lol
I will have to check out buffy and angel one of these days.

You should definitely! Especially Angel. Its more grown up and fun. It also has the super sexy yet brilliant Fred... she is a female despite her name. XD
