I have been wanting to read The Book Thief for years.

message 55: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments I finished my first book for the challenge. Fall of Giants (The Century Trilogy #1) by Ken Follett

I kind of cheated a little bit because I was reading it before the challenge started but since the book is about 1000 pages long, I don't feel too bad about that. I think Ken Follett is a great storyteller and he does an amazing job with historical fiction.

Jenn (darkstarcassidy) | 257 comments Idk Rachel, I went on seasonal reading challenges and it just shows this thread. Maybe When I get my laptop back it will work. Like on my iPod I can't post the cover of the book from this.

message 60: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments I just looked on my iPhone and it doesn't look like you can sign up for the challenge on the mobile app. I am assuming its the same for an iPod. You may have to wait until you get your laptop back. I hope that is soon!

I have been obsessed with a particular book that I am reading to meet the task of a character obsessed with a particular book. Found this at the library.

The Book of Mormon Girl Stories from an American Faith by Joanna Brooks

The Book of Mormon Girl: Stories from an American Faith

Christine might enjoy this since she lives in Utah. The author is not only obsessed with The Book of Mormon but in chapter four she is obsessed with Marie Osmond's Guide to beauty, health, and style

message 62: by Josh (new)

Josh Barnett (joshyboy98311) | 366 comments This is what I am reading. The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice. Lestat becomes obsessed with the book Interview With the Vampire. In turn, the whole reason that he writes his memoirs and starting a rock band is from that book.

Into the Dark by R.L. Stine. It features a blind mean character. It is a reread but really easy to read.

I have started reading a couple of short stories of Sherlock Holmes. Because I am reading the stories in chronological order, I have a few more short stories to read and then I will finally get to a full blown novel, which I forgot what it is named. XD

The Vampire Lestat... formerly known as Satan's Night Out freaking ROCKS!!!!!

Here is a music video from The Queen of The Damned movie from Lestat's band... my only complaint with the clip is Lestat's hair isn't blond nor long like it is in the novel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qdfwc8...

I did not know that. What network will it be on? I have not yet read the original Dracula novel yet but I plan on doing so soon. I love vampires when they aren't trying to romance a girl in 4 books and sparkles. lol.

Cirque Du Freak by Darren Shan, Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice, Dracula, Angel, Buffy, John Carpeter's Vampires... just to name a few I like

I haven't become much of a vampire fan in any form, but that video was certainly entertaining and a bit twisted - which is kinda what I go for. Thanks.

Are you referring to Twilight. Were there 4 books?

Josh Barnett (joshyboy98311) | 366 comments Dustin Crazy little brown owl wrote: "Satan's Night Out - sounds really fun :-)"

In the book since it was set in the 80's I figure the band was a hair metal band, like Motley Crue, Ratt, and Poison. They might had been more like Metallica maybe. I wonder if Anne Rice has ever had that question, what did the band sound like. I love the music in the movie but then again I LOVE Korn which is who does all the stuff for Lestat in the movie.

I believe it's going to be on nbc. you may not be happy to hear Dracula still holds a torch for his dead wife who has apparently been reincarnated so he loves her from afar

but in the meantime gets revenge on a lot of people he feels did him wrong many years ago.

I think it's set in Victorian england

I am just not that into vampires. None of this information is interesting to me. I did however like Johnny Depp in Dark Shadows and I liked some of the Scooby Doo episodes that featured vampires so I guess that is something.

I thought Twilight was a trilogy with only 3 books for some reason. I never read any of them but I saw the Breaking Dawn movies because I was working at the movie theater.

message 79: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 3524 comments vampires aren't for everyone- I generally don't like reading about them but I do like vampire movies.

I also loved the vampire show forever knight which was on ages ago and will check out this new show to see if it's any good.

fyi dark shadows was also an old tv show- the movie was inspired by the series.

p.s. Scooby doo rocks ;)

Johnny Depp!!!!!

message 81: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments For me, the whole vampire thing started with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I used to watch with my daughter. I like most of the books and movies except for Twilight. Best vampire movie is Bram Stoker's Dracula starring Gary Oldman (1992). I am also a huge fan of the HBO's True Blood. I read the Sookie Stackhouse books but they are a bit silly.

I never watched buffy for some reason-it looked like a fun show.

I didn't watch the tudors but the actor who starred in that is the star of the Dracula tv show

I agree the Dracula movie with gary oldman was very good

I am going to watch Dracula because of Jonathan Rhys Meyers. I didn't see the Tudors either but I have liked other things he's been in.

Buffy was fun.

I am a huge fan of Gary Oldman.

You should watch Buffy/Angel... Atleast seasons 1-3 which were the best. Then after that watch Angel in its entirety, I have to saw angel is Joss Whendon's best show.

Ditto with me. Vampires all started with Buffy for me. I used to watch it with my dad. I haven't read too many vampire books other than ones in the three series I mentioned. I had fan boy crazy when I heard Darren Shan was doing a prequel series to Cirque Du Freak. Which is AMAZING BTW. lol. Darren Shan's vampires are my favorite to read about. I love how he gives vampires a different feel to them.

dracula's love for his wife is part of the draw for me (as well as the fact that the actor playing him is more than a little sexy)
but don't worry there looks to be plenty of bloody revenge to balance things out lol

I will have to check out buffy and angel one of these days.

message 98: by Josh (new)

Josh Barnett (joshyboy98311) | 366 comments I'll check it out. It won't hurt since its free. XD

You should definitely! Especially Angel. Its more grown up and fun. It also has the super sexy yet brilliant Fred... she is a female despite her name. XD

message 99: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (darkstarcassidy) | 257 comments I always loved vampire books and pretty much any monster movie book. Fright Night( the original) one is one of my favorite movies. I loved Twilight for the paranormal romance and action later in the last 2 books. The Reformed vampire support group by Catherine Jinks was kinda cool to read.
