Literary Horror discussion
Introductions
Hi, I'm not new to Goodreads but I am to this group. I'm a British writer of psychological thrillers and horror, and I dabble in dark poetry and flash fiction. I like my dark fiction and horror to be on the quieter side generally, and literary. Looking forward to broadening my TBR pile and contributing where I can. Lou

Hello,My name is Becky and I’m from Michigan. I love all things horror. Lately with my reading, I am trying to branch out from my little niche of Koontz and King and expand into something more. I am excited to see recommendations and interact with everyone.
Hi, I joined this group awhile back but I don't think I ever introduced myself. I'm Amanda from PA. I'm a librarian who loves all things horror.
Amanda wrote: "Hi, I joined this group awhile back but I don't think I ever introduced myself. I'm Amanda from PA. I'm a librarian who loves all things horror." Hello, Amanda. You will find all things horror here.
Hello! My name's Jessica Miller and I'm looking for somewhere to gush about my favorite horror media and find some new recommendations.I love all horror, but I gravitate more towards ghost stories -particularly haunted house stories and murder mysteries with supernatural hints. I tend to avoid romance stories and home invasion/true crime stories (too real for me!).

Hi Jessica, plenty of room for a good gush in this group.
Hi all! My name is Chase and I am only recently trying to start reading again. My favorite genre is horror, and I prefer slasher, psychological, and existential horror most. I also dabble in writing short stories :) Happy to be here and to join in on all the great discussions!

Hi everyone!I am new to this group. I joined to see what everyone was reading in the horror genre. The latest books I’ve read are Dead Inside (man, that one was brutal but pretty good), Brother (I enjoyed this one and it definitely had some good plot twists), Hurricane Season (this one was really bizarre and had some disturbing elements), and I am currently reading Lapvona and enjoying it so far 😃

Hiya, hiya, hiya. I'm a literary fiction writer who hasn't written any horror yet, though I love reading it. T.E. Grau, Nathan Ballingrud, and Laird Barron are among my fav lit. horror writers.

Sup everyone, I’m Kang. I’ve enjoyed horror since I was little. I remember reading scary stories to read in the dark. Overall horror still my favorite genre even though I took a long break from it. I’m very new to Goodreads, so I’m still figuring groups out. Anyway I’m happy to be here.

Hi everyone. I just joined this group and wanted to introduce myself. I'm a horror lover of long standing. I see your current group read is The Black Maybe. I just picked that one up and I look forward to getting to it soon. I loved the Valancourt issued collection A Different Darkness and Other Abominations by Luigi Musolino.

Hello everyone. I've always loved reading literary horror, with an emphasis on the 'literary', but I'm struggling to find anything at the moment that completely satisfies both strands, so I'm hoping this group will help.I'm an author of literary fiction, and the novel I'm writing now has a horror element.

Hi Claire, this group likes all types of horror, including the literary type. My first novel combined horror and literary fiction (plus fantasy), but these days I'm writing more commercial fantasy, but I know where you're coming from. Hopefully you'll find things to engage you here.
Hi Claire! I never comment here, but I love your books and reviews, so I’m waving hello. I have a lit-horror WIP as well, but it’s been such a struggle to finish. To answer your question, the best lit-horror I’ve read recently was Chouette by Claire Oshetsky; I’ve just enjoyed Touch of Jen by Beth Morgan; and of course I love Mona Awad. Rachel Harrison is more fun than literary, but as grounded horror about women it’s top notch. I cannot recommend The Pillow Friend by Lisa Tuttle highly enough. I think it’s a forgotten classic in need of revival (and I have just written the intro for the NYRB reissue to Tuttle’s novella My Death, so obviously I rec that one too!). Cheers, and looking forward to your horror-novel-to-come.

Great to meet you here! And thank you so much for these recommendations - some I've heard of - none of which I've read, so you have in one swoop given me a great tbr. Thank you! I especially like the look of The Pillow Friend and My Death (and love the cover for the NYRB reissue). Trouble is, now I want to go and read them all and not do any writing...

Well, I'm back. I joined this group originally in 2018 and participated in the group read of Ancient Sorceries and Other Weird Stories by Algernon Blackwood. I had to drop a few groups in 2019 as life got really crazy for a while, but I'm back again now. I used to go by Randy (my real life name) but I kept running into other Randys so now it's RJ, at least until I start running into a lot of those. I did comment on the recent group read of Hurricane Season, which I enjoyed, even though it's probably not "horror" per se.
Nice to be back. Looking forward to talking books with everyone. Friend requests always welcome unless you're an author just looking to pimp your own work. (Author friends are OK too, don't get me wrong, I just don't want anyone humping my leg.)

Hi everyone, I'm the author of a literary horror novel, but still feel I have a lot to learn about this tradition of writing, so thought I'd see what some more informed people are reading.
Jonathan wrote: "Hi everyone, I'm the author of a literary horror novel, but still feel I have a lot to learn about this tradition of writing, so thought I'd see what some more informed people are reading." Hi to you too. Lots of interesting reads as well as other writers in this group.
Hello, all. I'm a published short story writer and poet who reads quite a bit of horror but finds it hard to find REALLY good horror. Maybe that'll change with some of your group reads and recos. And a friend request, should anyone be so inclined. Some of my best reads have come off of others' feeds! Anyhoo. Hi.
Hello Michael. Welcome to the group. Lots of different horror likes here, so hopefully you'll find something that ignites your reading flames.
Hello everyone, my name is inci.I keep seeing your monthly reads when my friend Whitney comments/votes on them and the titles always impress me and they're also usually books I already have on my tbr.
I like all kinds of horror, though it's a special kind of pleasure when it is literary and of high quality, I also read weird, crime/noir and science fiction.
Have a great Monday!
