Julia | 4 comments I found out recently that Uriah has been cut from the first movie. I am still enraged about it and think he definitely should be in Divergent. How else would Tris go zip lining ?! or see him shoot at Marlene's head?I had been reading around and some people agreed with there choice and some didn't. What do you think?

message 2: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (toothpickpiggy) | 26 comments Nope i do NOT!!!! I hate it!!!! But..... I think they know whats best for the movie, and either way i think it'll turn out GREAT! Both movies! :D

message 3: by Joshua (new)

Joshua (fignewto) | 56 comments Well neither Marlene nor Lynn will be present, which is a shame. I like the aspect of giving a minor character in one book a larger role in the next. Which is the case for Uriah and the others. I think it's important they should be in Divergent because it shows how Tris is shifting from her transfer friends to the born initiates. It creates a sort of internal conflict of who to trust.A theme that is certainly important throughout the series thus far.

message 4: by Francesca (new)

Francesca Caruso | 26 comments Of course Uriah should be in the movie!! I don't see why he shouldn't be!!

message 5: by Aisha (new)

Aisha (shooshtastic) | 14 comments Yes for sure, Uriah is so important to the plot of the first movie. How can they just not put him !!

message 6: by Stormy (new)

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1043 comments Exactly. In the first draft, there was no Uriah. No Ferris wheel. No zip line. Zip nada. Roth added him and those scenes to show the audience why Tris would want to be dauntless in the first place. It may be a challenge to convey that because of the absence of initiates.

Nicole | 6 comments Uriah is absolutely one of my favorite characters, so of course I wish he was in the movie. I love him so much! But I was just watching an interview about the movie, and they said that they had to get rid of some characters because there were just too many relationships to follow. You have Tris' relationship with Tobias, her parents, her brother, Christina, Will, etc. And it works to have all these relationships in a book, but it's a little too much for a movie...sadly.
But I really do think this movie will be awesome either way!!

Rachel (RachelOsborne) | 72 comments Isn't he gonna be in the second movie though?

message 12: by Little_lamb (new)

Little_lamb | 34 comments he's gonna be in the second movie, it's jst weird that he's nt in the first and he'll jst pop up in the second and i really like Uriah, he's one of my fav character in the book and i'll love to see him in the movie.

message 13: by Sαɾαԋ (new)

Sαɾαԋ ♥† (pie_in_ur_face) | 137 comments Yea, I loved Uriah too. And it's a shame Lynn died. Was anyone else confused when she said she loved Marlene ? I'm not sure if she meant what I THOUGHT she meant...

Jade (wolvesjsmith) | 19 comments woah woah woah... Uriah's been cut? no way!

I took it as Lynn is a lesbian and was secretly in love with Marlene.

message 18: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2 comments Of course he should be in the movie! I'm sure those responsible for the decision know what's best for the movie but he's an essential character I think

Yea, okay. That's what I thought, as well.

yah um hi im shimmi soo (bethanybooks) | 5 comments YES!!! AND MARLENE! AND LYNN! ESPECIALLY URIAH AND MARLENE! What, so they are just going to SKIP Marlene's very tragic DEATH?! And people are saying Uriah might die in Allegiant! What are they gonna do when they make Allegiant the movie, huh? Skip his death too? I am very disappointed!

message 21: by Makayla (new)

Makayla (makdanielle) | 5 comments I don't think it would ruin the movie, I just want an explanation as to why he's NOT in it.... Like, why? I don't understand.

message 23: by Stormy (new)

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1043 comments It's very complicated to fit everything into a 2 hour movie. The more characters you add, the more arcs you have to complete. Uriah, Lynn, and Marlene are great characters and without them the movie will be different no doubt, but I think once we see the movie we will have a better understanding of why they made the cut. My theory is that they expanded some scenes and characters such as Jeanine and Caleb because if you have Kate Winslet on your set, you don't wanna waste a great opportunity.

message 24: by Divergent (new)

Divergent | 3 comments I really think the movie would be better with Uriah

message 25: by Natalie (new)

Natalie N. | 1 comments I didnt know about this until just now but it's rediculous! He is imperative to the movie and an overall great character:(

Selene {нєιя σf ℓυиα} (ohthefeelsofbooks) HE SHOULD BE! I WAS SOOOOOOOO MAD WHEN I FOUND OUT HE (as well as Marlene and Lynn) WASN'T IN THE MOVIE. THERE'S SO MANY THINGS THAT ARE PROBABLY GOING TO BE SO DIFFERENT AND I'M SO MAD!

message 27: by Simone (new)

Simone Francois (simonefrncs) | 4 comments I think Uriah should be in the movie because he shows the audience the good side of being in Dauntless because up until that point Tris was wondering was there any Dauntless members who were not competitive jerks like Eric or complicated like Four.

message 28: by Stormy (new)

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1043 comments Exactly that's why Uriah was in the book in the first place.

message 29: by Imogen (new)

Imogen (imogenquinn) How do you go zip lining without Uriah?!

message 30: by booklover1113 (new)

booklover1113 | 10 comments YES!!!!! I think Christina and him should hook up in the next book!!:D

message 31: by Mariam (last edited Oct 07, 2013 12:43PM) (new)

Mariam | 1 comments Uriah isn't in the movie?! WOW way to ruin what would of been a good film. Honestly there's a lot of stuff about the movie I'm not really happy about. First of all, I do NOT like the guy they chose for Tobias at all! I know some of you might disagree with me but the guy they chose just looks too old and his acting and everything just doesn't fit the part! I like the actress for Tris, but I was still disappointed they didn't stick to the book description of Tris (she was supposed to be blond and about 5 feet tall - the one they cast is about 5'8). And Uriah also helps her when she finds out he's divergent! How epic would that scene have been?! Ugh I'm so disappointed.

message 32: by Nessaryn (new)

Nessaryn Cole (nessaryncole) Did they cut him or change his name? because on IMDb it has a few names not in the book, so I think they may have changed his name... but I could be wrong..

message 33: by Giova (new)

Giova (gi22) | 100 comments He's not going to be on this movie but until Insurgent. Veronica Roth said that they're trying to cast him perfectly.
I would've liked him to be in the first movie but well... I like Uriah a lot but at least he'll be in the second one :)

message 34: by Nessaryn (new)

Nessaryn Cole (nessaryncole) Oh okay. I didn't know for sure.. But that's upsetting!! I really like him too!

message 35: by Ailish (new)

Ailish Mcaleer | 5 comments YES I am so mad he is being cut

message 36: by Giova (new)

Giova (gi22) | 100 comments And it's weird because there's gonna be the zip line scene so I don't know what are they gonna do there

message 37: by Sαɾαԋ (last edited Oct 08, 2013 01:19PM) (new)

Sαɾαԋ ♥† (pie_in_ur_face) | 137 comments Oh they're not cutting that out ? Yea, I wonder how that'll be done...

message 38: by Stormy (new)

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1043 comments As long as Four isn't in the zip lining scene I will be a happy camper!

message 39: by cindy ♡ (new)

cindy ♡ It really sucks but they said that they didn't want to find an actor to just be in the background since Uriah doesn't appear in Divergent much. If they make Insurgemt and Allegiant to movies, he'll definitely be casted!

message 40: by Kaity (new)

Kaity (i-love-books-because-reasons) I LOVE Uriah, something about him not being in the movie confuses me. He's the one who takes Tris zip lining in the book, and we know the zip lining scene is going to be in the movie, but if Uriah is not in the movie how will Tris know about zip lining? I'm so confused.

message 41: by Stormy (new)

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1043 comments Maybe they make it part of the dauntless initiation process... But Four better not be up there. No no no!!!

message 42: by Carolina (new)

Carolina (carolina-reads) | 7 comments I definitely think he should've been in the movie.. He was both Tris' and Tobias' close friends, and his role becomes even more important in the second and third book (especially in Allegiant; Uriah's tragic death), so I guess he should have been in the first movie to also show how Tris shifted between her friends during Dauntless initiation.. He was also the one who introduced her to zip-lining, which I think is a VERY important part of the book. People would understand it more when in the 3d movie, hopefully, Tobias goes zip-lining like Tris did..

message 43: by cindy ♡ (new)

cindy ♡ I really wish he was in it. they said that they couldn't find an actor that really fits his part who was a good actor since uriah has a bigger role in the next 2 books. but I wish he was in it!

The Life Of A Firefly (thelifeofafirefly) | 296 comments I was wondering why I couldn't find his name in IMDB cast, I thought he would have been in it, he was a great character in the books, I hope he is in the sequels if they do them :(

message 45: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarah8088) | 2 comments I was so sad when I found out about that

message 46: by Emma (new)

Emma | 13 comments He should have! He plays an important part in Insurgent. When I watch the movie I will scream his name at the protecter!

message 47: by Greek_geek (new)

Greek_geek | 12 comments Definitely! he poses a really humorous character and should be added to the movie!!

message 48: by Kaitlyn (new)

Kaitlyn | 6 comments I'm completely outraged that they wouldn't include him in the movie.. HE PLAYED SUCH A GOOD PART IN THE BOOKS!!! But, none the less, the movie will still probably be excellent so I can't wait.

message 49: by MiMi (new)

MiMi (planetearthturnsslowly) I think he should be in the movie. He is in some key parts in insurgent and the movie makers can't put him in insurgent if he's not in divergent.

This reminds me of the movie for the host. I can't remember the guy's name I think it was like Walter or something like that (the guy that had cancer :( ) and he was cut from the movie but that was huge in the book. It made me upset because that guy had an effect on Wanderer and helped her come up with the idea that cured Jamie. It made me upset as will this.

Yes, that was Walter. But Uriah is even more important in the whole series. He was, like, the ONLY friend who was loyal to Tris. Christina left her in between, and there were so many backstabbing people (its a spoiler so i wont tell who), but Uriah was a great friend, and a very brave fighter too!
