Dan (TheGreatBeast) I'd like to hit Verne then Wells, then from there do it a book every 10 years, and once we hit the 50's and on do maybe two books per month, so that we can hit all the big authors, and for those of us who have read a lot classic sci-fi books have alternate options. Either that or maybe do an author per month and try to make it relatively chronological. I'm open to any suggestions. Any thoughts?

Alex | 34 comments I agree with reading a Wells book after Verne and then reading a book from like you said something like every 10 years. I'd go with reading two books per month when we hit the golden age. I'd rather vote for books by different authors then just books by one author. Or maybe something like voting for a book by different authors and for the second book vote for a book by one author? Just my two cents.

Afshaan (geekierthanthou) Dan and Alexander, both your ideas sound good. I would also recommend reading two books of different authors. It will add variety and allow a comparative discussion of the concepts and writing styles of the authors as peers.

Jenn (ace-geek) I like those ideas. I some point I believe we should do something by Isaac Asimov. Arthur C. Clarke wouldn't be bad either.

I completely agree. We can have two polls for authors but I'll keep books by the same author in the same poll.

I think by having two authors per month later it will ensure that we will hit all the big name authors, Clarke and Asimov included.

Jo | 1094 comments I like the idea of 2 books. For me for the first book I'm happy with a classic author but for a second book would prefer something a bit more unusual. It would be interesting to read a lesser known /successful author that influenced Sci-fi or even Sci-fi from around the world. Probably not that simple but just a thought:-)

Good idea!

Dan (TheGreatBeast) That's not a bad idea either.

Jo | 1094 comments This thread was opened a while ago with how to proceed when we reached the 50's. Already in the nominations for the 40's there are more and more well known authors and classic books. There are a lot of authors I would like to read more of so personally I don't want to rush through.

In the thread above there were mentions of 2 books per month, I don't know if this is still what people prefer?

As we reach the 50's do you prefer the nominations are more author based so for example choose 2 key authors or would you prefer a combination, so 1 author / 1 novel (by a different author). Another possibility is if there is a lot of interest in a decade then it can be split over 2 months reading so have 4 books etc.

All ideas welcome as this will be used next month when we start nominations for the 50's.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) | 4367 comments We're certainly seeing that there are a lot of choices in the 40's. The 50's & 60's are going to be even tougher.

I was just thinking the 50's and 60's might need more than one month to cover them and then I read your post. Another thought I had is to have each member choose 5 key authors they think are essential to each decade and then we could see where the overlap is among our choices.
